  • The Ditko one is great. Imagine the same panels without the narrative text - the first three as drawn would be pretty timid. You wouldn't know that the "Spider signal" was an awesome beam, shining through the darkness. It's not drawn very "shining" and there's not a lot of darkness....

    I can offer no advice on how a "typical" comic is lettered, but through the years of making strips and seeing them in print, I've developed a certain procedure. It's only how I do it, but it works out for me fairly well, might give you some things you could use (or might not, of course!)....
