    Adam Strange

I wanted to share something I haven't done in over two years: fan art. This is a color painting I whipped up over the last two days! It’s based on an ink drawing I did in 2017. I started in Procreate on my iPad Pro, then moved it over to Photoshop on my iMac, using my Wacom Intuos Pro M.

I have to say I am genuinely happy to see this. Invincible was the last comic book I read religiously. It's kind of weird, but I really liked the series because of two reasons:

    1) There was only one Invincible comic book I had to buy as opposed to 10 million X-Men/Spider-Man/Bat-Man titles...

I think the key to the stance is the tail, it appears to be stabilizing the creature. Which leads me to think that while it is standing, as opposed to moving forward, it can almost position it's feet slightly off. At any rate, I like the look of it and am more interested in the eye on the book and magical...

Thanks, Smitty. I pushed the pose somewhat in the arms and legs, but I didn't think about the foreshortening into the right arm, which that is a good point. A drop shadow would really solidify where he is. As such, I opted to leave it out intentionally. He does look like he's tip toeing, but, if I force...

    Om, Ethereal Power

"Om, Ethereal Power", my latest piece. This is the third time I have envisioned Om. I aimed for a simplified color palette. It can be a challenge to limit the use of colors in a painting, especially working digitally. It's something I'm learning more about in my process.

100%!! I have often flip-flopped between painting and making comics. This is the longest stretch I've gone doing only painting/illustration work and it seems to be working out ...

I appreciate all the feedback guys, hips and all Early on when I started these series of paintings, I didn't use much reference. For the past year, I've defintely been on a reference kick, learning the in's and out's of using and not using it. As this year winds down I will have completed about 40...

Thank you for that input, humble-tomato, and for the draw overs. To be honest, I saw a reference that I really liked and simply went with that. If you check out this video time lapse of my the painting process, you'll see the model and reference photo I used. What I liked about the photo and the model's...

Thanks, Covie, I appreciate the feedback. I'm happy you're enjoying it overall! I create a new painting each month and my big project is an art book about The Realm Ethereal. Just check out my website from time to time for updates

For illustrations, work on adding backgrounds to your character drawings. Creating a world or environment for your characters to exist or interact with gives the illustration a narrative.

For graphic novels, well, you gotta draw sequential art. I recommend thumbnailing your comic book pages...

I think it's great you've been drawing every day during the past year. I also think the character you've created here looks interesting. But without a context to place it in, it might be hard to give a critique or any tips per se without knowing what your specific goals are. So, what is it you want...

    Gaius, Ethereal of the Land

A new Ethereal...Gaius, Ethereal of the Land. On the one hand, I'm just having too much fun creating these original characters. On the other, this piece is also influenced by my home state of California, which is where I reside, and the devastating wildfires that are/were simultaneously burning all...
