Just a concept for the draw-off of a griffin and minotaur. Interested in crits on the shading and fur rendering on the legs and the feather rendering around the head. I am sure something is going to pop out at me as soon as I hit submit....
There is something up with the comb..a Griffin is part Bird an Cat..a Monitor is like a ( I want to say Dragon or Lizard...Minos Tarus was a Monitor but he was The Bull.
Nice Drawing though
A couple things that stuck out at me:
- For the head, you've got the eyes as part of the beak - they should be higher on the head in a feathery part.
- The arm musculature is very humanoid.
Also, is he wearing armor on his shoulders? I wasn't quite clear on what that was. Maybe some straps or buckles to hold it on would make it a bit easier to discern.
The griffen should be the head and wings of an eagle, which this has more of a vulture look, and the body of a lion and this is a whole mess of animals (human, goat cat) Try drawing each a lion and an eagle for a bit and then merge them and see what you get.
"A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still."
Never argue with an Idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with exp.
I really appreciate the comments everyone. I am in the process of reworking the design in PS. I think that I made the hair to detailed on the legs and that helped contribute to the goat look, I should have let the form of the leg imply which animal it belonged to. I extended the feathers onto the head to cover eye (Big thanks to the catch on that.) I am going to really focus on that arm piece make it a little more intimidating, any ideas on how to make the strap convincing?
Even if it's a photo I took? The main reasons for the photo was to help establish a color range and value for the sketch. Hopefully it's not considered lazy, just didn't want to try to reinvent the wheel when I have a 50+ hour job that has nothing to do with art and a family. But if cheap is the crit then I'll take it. I was curious about layout, design, colors and general feel of the picture. Thanks for the comment about the hands, I forgot they are considered the second most expressive part, and I will give more thought to the placement when I doodle again.
