Nice work so far, but what is the woman suppose to be doing. It looks like she would be concern about the creature trying to grab her. If you plan on putting a title on the cover, watch for spacing.

I thought the creature was worshipping her.

Great drawing, but I agree the interaction between the two is confusing. Are they fighting?

I love the lineart, it seems like the heroine is surprised that she is arriving somewhere where there are sharkmen ready to eat her but shes not concerned as shes about to blast them full of her power. Almost like shes saying "Where did these Sharkmen come from? Ah well I will make short work of them with my power." I love the detail as well. Nicely drawn

I really like the drawing itself. Nice crisp lines.

I don't really know what else you're going to be adding to the image, but I definitely agree that the interaction between the two characters here is strange. Would make much more sense to have the woman looking down at the shark-dude.

Other than that, you also have a tangent forming with her ankle and foot and the creature's chin and jaw.

My thoughts exactly. These characters don't seem to be interacting to each other. It's sort of weird. I would think the girl would be reacting to the creature more via her body language and expression. Right now, she almost seems unaware that the monster is at her feet at all. It's indeed odd. The girl should be looking down at the threat instead of out at the reader.

The tangent thing is pretty troubling also. It would be better to have the female figure floating above the creature here than to have the woman's foot butting up against the contour lines of the monster in this manner. Try to avoid tangents whenever you can because they create visual distraction and often diminish depth in a drawing. I don't know if you've seen Bret Blevins' illustrations regarding tangents and line-ups, but in case you're unfamiliar with what a "tangent" might be, Bret sums them up pretty well here:

Its really nice coloring, but still the cover doesn't make since. The concept of a comic book cover is to convey what the comic is about. I don't get what this comic would be about.

there should be a drawing contest to see who can draw the most tangents...

I can see why guys are being critical. The linework is excellent (albeit lacking line weight variety) marred by composition that could be improved.

My comment would be the work is generally competent but not very exciting. And considering covers are supposed to be exciting, i would personally rethink the composition at the concept stage rather than trying to fix it in parts. This scene could be drawn from multiple angles and a good exercise is drawing thumbnails to see which angle is the best, rather than jumping straight into drawing a detailed piece.

Now with the rest of the context, it really doesn't make sense to not have her look at the shark guy. The cover looks completely disjointed because she is looking "offscreen" and not at the threat. And because it is a cover, you can't assume the reader has any previous knowledge (like she's blind or something). It will just look "wrong" and discourage people from being attracted to it.

She doesn't have pupils though, so how do you know she's not looking at the sharkguy?

Yes, I agree she might have excellent peripheral vision. :-)

However, her head is not oriented toward the threat. If a tiger sprang out of the bushes at you, you would be looking right at it, not out of the corner of your eye.

This is digital, right? Change the orientation of her head and let us have a look. In addition, I just noticed that she really isn't directing her "wobbly line" power at the beast, either.
