  • A.J.'s Sketches

I suppose this area is for the spilling of one's guts. There will be time for that later on. But first, a plethora of images.

...a couple of older demon pictures.

Then a few Superman studies, kind of recent.

That one was inspired by Eric Powell's work.

There's more to come. Thanks for looking.

    I assume it's 3 posts per window?

Here's a Superman study. My first after Loston's Super Insignia tutorial. It was most helpful.

    And various others:

      Year End Cleaning House

2008 has been quite a rough year. It's time to look back and
appreciate what I still have. Let the healing begin.
First up- a collage of preliminary sketches from my Richard Dadd project that finally got off the back burner this year.

          More of the Same

Here's a collage of more sketch output for 2008

I might have enough imagery for one or two more cohesive collage pieces.

            Digital dilemma

This is an attempt at coloring digitally. I have to admit, traditional media ( ink, watercolor, marker, etc) is easier to control for me. It's obviously unfinished.

Keep at it AJ! I think your showing some areas of strength here, but I wouldn't try to stick to many irons in the fire (like digital coloring for instance) until you focus on perfecting some other areas....but I'm one to talk!!

                Priorities

I've been working on this commissioned t-shirt design

This is the chosen color scheme. Hopefully the next step will be in the finished works section.

Since most of my creative juices have been smeared in service of the Orioles design, I haven't been doing any worthy figurative comics work. This is what passes for quality for me right about now. Temporarily, I hope.

                  Reworked Drawings

Here's a couple of images that have gotten zero responses.
So I obviously needed to rework them.

I really like the hellboy one but its very bright it kind of hurts to look at, the lines are a bright bright gray on the white background its just kind of stingy.

I know there are people out there who believe drawing technique and style should should be perfected before attempping any thing like computer graphics. At 41 years old, I think I need as much practice as I can get.
With that I present my latest in the digital style.

                          Color test

Here's a color test on my in-progress final piece. The final was too big for my scanner, but all the major elements are present.

                            A drawing to color.

A botched color piece. Must get the hang of layers.

your biggest problem with coloring seems to be that your coloring above your lines try this http://t-k-.deviantart.com/art/minor...-art-107811851
