eh...i dunno if you quoted the wrong pic or if you're just REALLY good at spotting influences! ha! i loved the red son comic, spent awhile trying to draw faces like his but i wouldn't have put him on a list of my influences...maybe picked it up subconsciously? my major influences would be chris bachalo, joe mad, humberto ramos, carlos meglia and john romita jr. there's a lot more artists i like, but those are the ones i've spent time trying to emulate!
Yep I totally picked the wrong link...lol. I was talking about the Batman. As for picking influences I am okay. For Batman there are many different guys you can study like Lee or Aporro (sp?) to help you see how to not over render him, but with that being said I really love your first groundwork sketch, and I would love to see it on Biggs boy paper. Background suggestion, the bat signal in the sky with some of the skyline.
Thanks again Crazy. I love the Guile! SONIC BOOM!! What type of markers do you use? I'd like to start incorporating other mediums with my sketches such as inking and Copics/Prismas.
i use a cheapo version of copics called promarker by letraset and for finer lines i use staedtler of various sizes! just jump in with the markers! im loving using them but god i suck with em! here a very rough sketch of the hulk i did as part of my homework for my new blog!
Basically i'm going to set myself "homework" each week where i pick two characters and draw one action pose and one static pose for each and then draw them fighting each other! this week is the hulk and omniman!
this is the hulks pose from the final hulk vs omniman piece for this weeks assignment! he's just been kracked in the face by omniman (pose still to be decided)
heres one of the potential poses for omniman!
cheers for looking! sorry that they're photos! no time to scan! any and all thoughts are welcome!!
what do you mean by books? comics? tutorials? what i'm reading at the moment is modern masters vol3: bruce timm! great inspiration and great tips! comics? i'm reading inivincible and the walking dead on a regular basis, other than that anything by bachalo or ramos i will look at! in terms of books that have helped me with my art? the d.c guide to pencilling is a great book! i've read it a dozen times and every time i pick up something different!
interesting fact: omniman looks exactly like my dad. exactly like him and a lot of the people i work with know my dad so when i sat in work sketching omniman i got a lot of "why are you drawing your dad as a superhero?" ha!
I see a sort of Bestie (Dean) art influence in your last Hulk-es and I like it! In the sketches where we see Hulk with big torso and smaller legs and that one where we see Hulk from the back the legs anatomy is improved! Continue to study and draw and use references for anatomy (above all for understanding muscles position and size).
