    NSFW - Toning in earnest

This is a bit more elaborate toning practice using phot reference again. I am still far from the desired level, but I feel I am getting closer. So with anatomy. I was worst with the lower lip, but after seeing the scanned version I recognised this flaw, went back and tuned it a bit to an acceptable level. Hopefully.
(The third aim with this pic is to check if Photobucket still hates boobies:-)
    Cheers,

Two step Duke Nukem (how many steps left..?)

It's funny that a few months back, when I just drew using photo ref, I consulted often anatomy tables during the progress in an attempt to identify underlying structure and get a better grip on construction, and then a few months were enough to forget this practice. But it really worths it (if it is not the only way to improve).
So I just come up with the shining bright idea (which I guess has been a couple of times suggested to me -.-), to use stance reference for my themed drawings, and anatomy tables to put muscles on the referenced stance. By themed I mean they're not practice drawings using direct reference, but for example the ones I prepare for WSG. And WSG has indeed become the field for the pilot project.
Duke's arms were referenced after mine for position, and checking a number of anatomy tables I tried to figure out how muscles should look like in this position and added them to get three times thicker limbs than mine:-) Valkyrie is just a clumsy addition, heavily referenced, so she does not relly play. The monsta's calf and forearm muscles were referenced, but I guess I was not completely able to figure out the layout at that arm position... Anyway I like the outcome, it would worth cleaning up sometime in the future.

I have finally got to study the Barcsay Anatomy book in earnest, here are two views of the arm. I won't learn all that Latin names, but I really studied the layout during and after drawing it. And also plan to use these drawings as reference tabloids in the future...

          (hand too small...)

And a Green Lantern for WSG #198. I referenced the pose from a photograph of a _female_ volleyball player, added muscle and played the old favourite drawing practice game: gender changing:-) But in the end I lost and the tricky pose that woman had does not really come through, rather I have the feeling that my Lantern is just falling apart. Anyway it was fun to do and a good practice hopefully. I am getting to that comic kinda look.

            Celebrating 200th WSG

Work turned to very busy during the last two weeks and I hardly found time for drawing. The only time I had was the flight back to Hungary on Friday night and the return on Monday early morning - sketches on the plain and in the airport lounge in a half sleep state:-). Here is one of the worhty pages (no ref):

I was even a bit downhearted by this whole work misery, since the prospect seemed to be the same load till late June... Furtunately pressure in the second half of this week eased up a bit so I could set myself up to the stupid idea I had in mind for WSG 200. First attempt was Wednesday late night, then I restarted the whole on Thursday night and finished it half an hour ago. No tracing is there, alhough I cheated a bit and used Photoshop to correct some proporations with scaling and repositioning (and cleaned up distorted areas). Arm and hand referenced mine (still awkward both), Manji came from two different dogs (mostly from a Puppy:-)), and I still have to fix a lot of things in the pic. But I leave it that for now and let myself over to happy relaxing after the week.:-)

I was too tired yesterday evening and the slow internet connection played easily tricks on me - i.e. I doubled the Leia post. So I thought I should put this panel to use and include here my late arrival Ryu piece for WSG #200.

I referenced my hands a bit again, but his upper hand is still crap and I do not feel the mood to redraw it. Everything else is non-ref. Yeaah, and that flying savoy cabbage represeneting the energy ball is a bit annoying...

                Only in rebello

An experimental Leia for WSG #201, which ended up as a girl's magazine mock-up. I am really tired to create that much of bullsh|t - should go to sleep now.

A belated Abe piece for WSG #199, which I really wanted to draw but did not have the time back then. I have not played the game, but nowadays I'm in an adventure game like mood, so I might get and try it.

A Striperella for WSG #202... First attempt was a more Pamela based pic, but my feelings for her showed true so I had to draw a new pic (the first was just too much plastic incarnate :-)) I have tried to apply a different style than my usual stuff, which included different proportions and stance. I guess I can call this more or less a success, although the head is definately a bit out of the style...

(I don't know how the Unicum bottles came, but I guess I am pretty much looking forward to getting back to Hungary for the Easter holiday - hope any of you girls have Unicum for monday:-))

There were a lot of astonishing Savage Dragon posts this week at WSG, and I have grown to like that character although I didn't know much about him before and still don't know much now. So I have come up with a piece on him, also practising drawing arm musculature. This time the whole piece is without reference and most parts are not bad but the lower arms and the hands do not do justice to the pic. I really have to focus on these areas in the future.
                      Cheers,

                        Lean weeks

I had two lean weeks, in at least terms of drawing (but not in terms of consumed beer:-) I had a short 5 days back in Hungary as an Easter break, which should have been relaxing but rather became tyring. But it still was a great time. So was Scotland and the Lake District after that, I guess I come up with something sentimentally Celtic or at least 'Kiltic' soon:-) And... yeah... even work has not been bad this week.
There is a rough Spawn which started to look great but due to the lack of original planning it ended up... a bit sort of falling apart again. And still with a bit stupid muscles in places. No ref.

And here is a much nicer looking Black Cat I drew in my only relaxing morning during the Easter holiday. No ref, although I consulted a Supergirl pic a bit to get an idea how a nice bent leg looks.

And I haven't finsihed the Thor piece I have in mind 20 WSG's for the 203rd - second chance blown....

Using that belated Thor piece of mine to fill a stupid double-post with meaning. I had a concept in mind which I still haven't implemented.

Who the Hell is Mary Marvel?

I still dunno, but here are two takes on her for current week WSG.

Taking that I do more like line-art then toning these days I returned to simple copier paper instead of my 110gsm sketchbook. Well, the first Mary might have been better with that sketchbook. It just started as a doodle, where I wanted to try out a big eye girl representation. Well, I messed up the pic, since there was no plan, just pencil strokes here and there, and those eyes are still not all right. And the body also has some issues, not to mention the arms. (Well the bolt icon rather looks like a Xmas tree :-))

The second was photo-referenced a bit for the positure, but then I left the ref behind and went for the looks I had in mind, and I guess I'm happy with the result. Damsel in distress...

Zombie Apocalypse... And I survived, thanks to Sean (WSG subject could have been draw yourself as a master zombie :-). Still, the loss is great...

I referenced myself from knee to top of the head, and taking how quickly I drew myself the likeness is not bad at all. (yeahh, the avatar is also me and my mate did a good job on likeness taking the number of colours and pixels he used - credit to Adam at Pixel Joint). My "ex-fiancé's" hand took considerably more time having no good ref, and I still don't like it. (I even spared drawing one and a half fingers selling it as zombie marks.) I plan to redraw this piece at some point adding lightning and background as well.

                                First Spidey since childhood

Yeahh. He was my favourite in childhood, so I was a bit afraid of drawing him I did not really want to end up with a lame Spidey. But this week brought him to WSG and there was no more excuse.
I tried to go for a dynamic pose with extreme forshortening but it didn't really work out so I chose the simple hanging/sitting on the wall pose. There was no ref for the pic, although the legs and the hand would need some... I plan to progress this piece a bit further sometime in the future.
