    Finished March PUMMEL pic

Here is the inked and colored version of my PUMMEL piece for March. I had this done by deadline but people I asked seemed to like the pencils-only version better.

I was told Sonja's legs were out of whack so I tried a sketch to show some modifications.

I think it's an improvement but not enough.

Just remember, there are a million and one ways to pose a human being, but as artists we hate 999,999 of them.

Besides Kent, I think that your piece came out great and you probably are harder on yourself about it then anyone else is going to be.

The legs might be a tad awkward, but really I don't think I mind it in the context of her being surprised like she is. I could see where you might get in an awkward stance. My only comment would be from her left knee down the steps need a bit of refinement. Past that I like this piece. Nice work.

I had the same thought about the stairs the day I posted it. Also, I really wish I had made them descending at a much more extreme angle.

I can't argue with that. I hate to say it but I'm impatient with my stuff. I tend to rush through coloring especially.

I ask because I was going to make suggestions based off of the program you're using. I did these today at work today during lunch. They are pretty down and dirty as it was done with a mouse and in a hurry but I think it's enough to give you an idea of how to approach it.

First thing I do, and I suggest you do as well, is lay down a base color so that you can see how dark or light other relation objects should be. in other words get rid of that white canvas, because it's all relative. You can't make fire bright in relation to a pure white background.

You can see that the fire is the brightest thing here, so it looks like fire. These colors are a bit too saturated for my taste but I wanted to show (below) how you can vary the colors all day long because at the end of the day value (shown in the BW below) is all that really matters.
