I'm just a beginner but the anatomy looks INCREDIBLE!!! Did you learn from a book? I'm struggling with it myself. Great work!!

      Thanks.

Studied a lot of comic book anatomy as a kid, took a bunch of figure drawing classes in college. But I stopped drawing for a long time and forgot most of it. This drawing looks pretty good at a glance, but there are still some anatomy problems… especially in the legs.

If you want a good place to start… Look into the Anatomy books by Burne Hogarth.

          Hi RonB,

I quite like your minimalist colour choice and the overall slightly stylised neat and clean look. It definitely would look great on a t-shirt.

          As for critics:
I think you were trying to pull a foreshortened pose, where we look up at supes, but this is not really supported by the positioning of his body. His body parts grow ever bigger as we go from head to feet giving him a pyramidal look, but they all appear to be drawn in a front view instead from a lower observation point.
The other thing which I would go over again is his chest. The chest muscles (pectorialis major/minor) should actually connect to the shoulder, so his chest should get wider at the top part not narrower. This might be part of the foreshortening attempt again, but I recon you should push the camera angle more to get such a strong "shrinking" on his chest just from perspective.
          Cheers,
          Einar

I wasn't really going for a shot from below... i think the anatomy problems just made it look that way. Supposed to be more of a straight on shot with the head tilted back. I quickly tried to fix the chest and the gorilla arms that were a big problem. Still haven't taken on the problems in the legs, though.

Hey Ron, I did a drawover. There were a couple issues. With the head in a tilted back pose, the nose would be 'higher' on the face. The left leg moves at the hip, so it would come up closer to the belt line as the knee was pulled up. All the muscles on his left side would contract to help the body complete that action. The skeleton would re-position as well when the hip was raised, making the waist move as well.

The arms appear too long and with his head tilted back like that (which tends to lift the front rib cage slightly), the execution of rib cage lift and back arching appears hurt by the chest logo not being foreshortened.

Also, his hands look a little bit too big along with his thighs appearing to be too thick.

Bring the wrist to the trochanter bone, lengthen the midsection and the chest logo, slightly thin the thighs and shrink the hands slightly, and you will have a much stronger piece.

This is more of a preference for me, but I prefer a Superman with broad shoulders, I would suggest broadening his shoulders just a slight bit.

Ill throw my two cents in here. Be cogniscent of the length of the neck in relation to the clavicle. His shoulders seem to work but the the way they sit borders on un natural. Pushing your shoulders that far down is physically possible but it would hurt like a mother. Other wise looks good. big improvement on loosening up the interior shapes with regards to the chest from the first sketch to the second. the side muscles that connect to the neck look good. just be aware of how the head sits on the body.
