Not at all what I expected - but a delight! 20 years come and gone and Hellboy remembers when he was younger and the world was a simpler place...? Well that's my take. Beautifully executed - from concept to finish. Really enjoy looking at this one..

All the single elements are ink and watercolor. The black background is acrylics and the splatters are made with a toothbrush and white acrilycs mixed with blue watercolors.

It's a nice piece. On model too - Hellboy is surprising tough to draw for such a simple character design, especially if you're not aping Mignola. I think you did really well here to get the right vibe and stay in your own style. Good luck with it!

My only real complaint is that halo. I'm not a fan in general, and I'd rather see some nice rim lighting. You don't have a lot of black going against black either, so you could do away with it pretty easily.

Haha, I was expecting complaints about the halo.. dammit.
I know that there are many artists who aren't excited about halos around characters and I really considered getting rid of it but I just didn't like it without it.
I don't know.. it's kind of a habit I have, to put halos around stuff. I really need to work on that.

Btw, Mister Mignola himself liked the piece on my facebook page... well, I tagged him but still, I'm just so damn happy right now!
That said, I don't think I'd have a chance to win, anyway. We'll see..

Heh, looks like I'm too late. I was just coming to post how I disliked the halo. Not a big fan of the technique. Definitely digging the pic though.
