  • Ryu, Magneto, Moonknight, Wolverine, Thor and Captain America!!!

    Hey guys,
Here is some new stuff. I've been playing with the idea of making my characters bulkier and bolder ( ala Mad! or Bachalo) in order to get more impact in my pics. Here are the results. LMK what you think.
    Thanks!
    J.C.

I'm diggin' the dynamic Moon Knight pose, J.C. Magneto's pretty beefy looking, but he's cool too. Nice work on all three of these.

          group become

          pretty nice work style wise!
now, there are a few things I think may need a bit work.
the last guy seems to be too much out of proportions to me. his joins are too inconsistent, and the shadows you gave him makes it look too flat. I get that you wanted to give him a huge amount of muscles, but the perspective in the arm coming towards us is not believable to me. also his thumb seems dislocated on that same arm.
the pose in itself could also be stronger. his left leg is hiding way too much behind his other legg. same with hiding off the head to the arms.
keep at it though! i like the style!

It worked man! I like everything except the foreshortening on Moon Knight's right foot. Fantastic job.

The Magneto is my favourite by far, although his pose is not as dynamic or foreshortened as the others. He looks formidable, like you would not be able to move him from that position no matter how hard you tried. Fantastic use of positive and negative space as well.

Interesting takes and style on these figures, but even in your quest to "beef them up", you still need to take into account a touch of realism as well.

i.e. Magneto's knees are as big as his head. His tricep has been shortened to the point of almost being non existent. The elbow joint is smaller then the rest of the arm, thinning it out a little more would give the forearm (and the bicep etc) a much "larger" look.

i.e. Moon Knights right foot appears to be about three times the size of his head, and unlike the right arm which you were trying to foreshorten towards the reader, you didn't (or appear to not) be doing the same with his leg. Which would mean, the foot shouldn't be that huge.

Again, if you stay with SOME of the rules of realism, you can then bend them and create your own style or look. But when you forgo those rules, your "style" starts to look "wrong"... instead of "wow".

                        That's just my opinion though.
If two wrongs don't make a right, how come three lefts do?

I really like the Ryu he seems older and powerful in this pic. Real interesting style I like the dark feel of all three drawings.
