I like the pulpy feel of the cover, and especially the fact that you manage to convey the essence of what the book is about -- important in a book cover, but somehow rarely achieved by illustrators. I agree on the text -- it's clumsy the way it is. I like the flames being strange and stylized, but i would watch the direction of the shadows they cast, and make them two colors.
Good work! You make me want to read that book again.
Popninja - Thanks brother! Really glad you like it. Do you think the text looks bad/ Or just pulls attention away from the image? My intention was for it to attract just as much attention as the image like a real book cover.
Kae-ae - I agree the flames could be better, but the ones I got accomplished what I was going for; something abstract and graphic at the same time.
lance_bailey - Thanks man! Glad you dig it. Good point on the shadows (a really good point you and Kae-ae bring up.) I wasn't initially going to have the pile of books on fire, so all my lighting, even the colours, were done with the torch flame in mind.
