  • falling down a cliff

OK, first time posting in 'finished work'. This is a sketch I did in pencil then ink and then scanned and tried to color in photoshop. It is sort of like a fingerpainting since all I had was the mousepad. Anyway, I am looking for any kind of advice on coloring/drawing so do your worst, PJ. Thanks

Well he be look'n like he runn'n at ya, instead of fall'n. Mayhap his feet be the last ta go. how 'bout ya do some foreshort'n. Where be the rest of that rope. i's think'n ya could give it more prespective. Have ta agree with Iwannabiscut 'bout that there arm, i's done a pic of John Wyane and did the some dag-blame thang. Good work. Keep it up.

The guy's pose isn't working here. He doesn't appear to be falling, sketchy, because his feet look grounded on the side of the cliff. If the viewers were seeing the soles of his feet, and the guy's head was far away from the camera as he was tumbling backwards with his arms outwar, it'd be more believable that he's falling downward. Right now though, he looks more like he's clinging to the wall like Spider-Man.

        Hope that helps.

Biscuit: thx, you are right the arm looks weird - good eye!
Daniels: R. Twas a bit of an exercise in perspective and colorin. Ye be right about the feet and positioning. Thanks
Loston: Thanks for weighing in. I guess I drew the guy in a weird pose and then thought it seemed like he was falling away. Maybe if I lose the cliff I can make it so he is coming toward the viewer. I don't know. Anyway, thanks for the critique!

Just wondering if anyone has any input on the coloring. Ways to make the shading better, face stuff, etc.

Ha, coloring is pretty hard. but you did a pretty good job.
It just kinda looks like you have more than one light source...if he was falling then it should be the moon light or sunlight 'illuminating' him more or less...
How i color is pick a light source left or right (because those angles are easy..XD) and then make all the shadows to the opposite of the direction you chose....
last tip i can think of ATM is the pants look faded, Don't go TO light or dark, a few shades down should do it. (unless he's in a dark/light room....XD there it differs.)
--if i can think of more ill tell yeah, or if you need help or..somethin just message me..xD

ditto on the look more like climbing rather than falling. his legs oughtta be closer to the viewer.
