  • color holds or no color holds or intricate hair or simpler

I should have posted it here in the beginning to get some critiques.

After a couple of months not being able to draw let alone sit down for a long time. Due to chest pains being induced when sitting.Chest pains because of Pulmonary Embloli attacked back in May. I started getting back on the proverbial drawing horse.

I figure my coloring style will be simple for now. Since I can't blend for shit. I'm not sure though which works better using color holds alot. And less detail as far as hair.
the minus the hair detail in the blue one was just done quickly to see how far I should take hair lines.

The line art is old. A very loose rough I did a couple of years ago. I'm just using my roughs for a quick practice in digital inking and digital coloring.

I'm not sure if my color is considered real coloring since the 2nd tone was a different layer of blacks that I made less opaque to make the darker tone.

The only advantage I could think of of having the 2nd tone be black then just making it less transparent is that the flat I could make that the intial main color I want. Versus making the flat the first coat a dark shade of a color then working from dark to light where I seem to be not as comfortable with.

I like the color held simpler hair better. I think the black is muddling it too much. All the lines might work if they were a bit more fine, but it makes the hair look darker than it should.

I preffer it with the inkwork, I think it's very nice inkwork and makes the piece alot more interesting.

The blue one is kickin' colorwise. I like the design, but the anatomy needs some work.

              Thanks for the comments.
literacysuks & to everybody so far. I will be doing another practice. I'm going to do a thinner ink versus a thicker ink also. What I did notice though is that when I try to do it thinner it seems to lose the energy of the pencils. I think its because I don't have the finesse yet of inking with a fine line using the wacom and mine is a intuous 3. And I'm using the vector brush.

Is there a mm that people seem to use when penciling.

So I think I will do 3 things as far as line work for inking.
              1) greyscaling pencils and just adjusting levels.
              2) inking using vector brush manga studioi around 10-15 mm
              3) vector brush manga studio around 25-35 mm

              And colors
              4)With color holds
              5) Without color holds
              colors
              6) Colors I might try to do ones with cuts and blending in. But i find myself so weak at it.
              7) Colors shading using a black layer and reducing the opacity. which is how I did the colors here.

              Detail
8)detailed hair and maybe some hatching.
              9) Simpler hair and less hatching.
