  • Firestation Logo

We are working on getting a logo for our station to put on our tabletops and the back of our t-shirts.

This is the initial design. Wanted to show ya'll and see what you think before I take it into the station. Keep in mind do to monetary and printing constraints I am limited on the amount of detail and the number of colors I can use

initial drawing- by me, 2h pencil, and an 08micron pen

Colors- of course by me. tried to use some cell shading.

I like the idea but there's no representation of the five fireman. There's two that are fighting, but no other symbolic meaning to the five. You could probably have a large FIGHTIN' at the top with a super large number 5 centered below in the style they useon the trucks - with on character looking menacing coming from behind the number five or use these two instead of the one.

Just one of many ideas. When I do logo designs I do a TON of thumbnail sketches of all sorts and combinations. Then it gets narrowed down and narrowed down. No sense in doing all of that work if the initial concept isn't right on the money.

To further Pencil's point about the logo concept not hitting home... It looks like the guys are fighting the hydrant which while in reality might be what normally happens (har), it might be more prudent to have them fighting a flame or burning building.

While your illustrations are good as separate pieces when you have them placed the way you do the effectiveness of each element is reduced overall.

Separate yourself from the work, take a step back and look at this as a logo that will represent your whole station. Does it give you the impact you/your fellow firefighters invisioned?

If you choose to stick with the elements you already have then I would suggest a minor change, put the backs of the firefighters facing the hydrant. This will give you a visual of them actually using the hydrant in their fighting.

Just a thought... and remember, our comments are meant to help and guide not chastise

        Good luck and good fighting!

I'm still not sure if thet're fighting the fire or each other, maybe a light twinkling in the eyes of our firemen to give more of an idea of where they are looking...also I like that you changed the hydrant to fire, but the fire seems a bit small...the five thing still is confusing, maybe yo could give them patches on there sleeves with 5 written on it?

just some ideas, keep working at it!
            I'm awesome...you're welcome...

Ninja's right, difficult to tell who or what they are fighting, especially since when I think of firefighters I always imagine them brawling with each other (every firefighting movie and t.v. show ever made doesn't help with this depiction).
Anyhow, maybe the station number on the helmet.

I think that's an excellent point. Sometimes what you want to do just doesn't work for what will work. Maybe in this case a logo should be just that, a logo, and minus the cartoon characters and focus on the FIGHTIN' FIVE as a station?

The characters have a very Irish, Notre Dame vibe which keeps distracting me. I'm not saying to necessarily go one way or the other but to just step back, think from a completely different perspective and go down that avenue for a little bit. You'll know if it's right, wrong or somewhere in- between.

                  .....

Hmmmmm, table tops and t-shirts huh? If I go back to your original design and and think more, maybe you can do this...Take the FIVE and make it all engulfed in flames and have the hydrant spraying water out as if the firemen punched it open. While you're at it maybe just make FIGHTIN' and FIVE engulfed in flames for consistency. Quick thumbnail sketches is the way to go. You can bang an idea out avery one to five minutes and make subtle changes and combinations really quick.

Ah! I've been typing while you've been working. LOL! Yeah, I think this has a nicer feel to it. It's in a completely new direction and keeps your brain from getting stuck. This can be easily blown up on the back of shirts, table top, coozies, shoulder of a t-shirt or pocket (many uses with those proportions. You just need to figure out how to incorporate the text and maybe a fire element.

                    Nice work firepunk!

You should put them back to back. It would better emphasize unity that way.

                        Yeah, I like this idea.

At the moment they're actually staring at each other and raising their fists. That tells me that they're fighting each other - rather than fighting fire.

Put them facing away from one another and the whole image takes on a new meaning.

                        Great suggestion from Mase.

I think that would look cool. I'll have to try that. As far as them fighting each other, I think thats what we were going for. Fighting over the hydrant, but i think i'll try it with them turned around. I also wanna try it with differennt colored helmets. Because as it is now its 2 officers.

Thanks guys. will post an update a little later.
