  • Penciler Needed for Post-Nuclear era SciFi book

This would be paid by a percentage of the backend profit, if/when the book would make it to print. It will at least be web bound. Currently, it's more of a callobaration than a money machine. There is potential for it to become that. I will be coloring this and also will not be making anything unless we get it to print, and would also receive backend profits.

My friend is writing a deep and ellaborate story that takes place in a futuristic post-nuclear-war society. The story has a lot of technological imagery, which is why the penciler should be detial oriented if possible He should be able to set the mood and have good perspective. Hopefully there is some new blood out there that is wanting to get some experience under their belt as well as some exposure.

At the minimum, you will have something to take with you to the cons of actual project work that is completed to show to the possible employers in the big leagues. It's a good start.

Please submit samples to [email protected] if you are interested.

Writing has already started and very detailed scripts would be put out in a month or so. Not sure how many books there would be at this time. Could be many depending on the popularity.

Thanks for reading and hope to see some good samples.

We've had some speed bumps in the test phase. Thank you everyone that submitted samples. We had an artist selected but he was unable to proceed. If there are more interested. Please submit samples. I'll be eagerly waiting. Hopefully there are more out there looking into diving into a great story that would have more creative privileges and say so in the book than in a normal gig. Thank you

So for everyone that hasn't worked on a back end contract, this is the real world translation. Percent of the back-end profit = working free. You just have to look at it as experience and a by line. Sorry Heagsta, but I am required by my conscience to tell the truth.

Agree with ArmstrongArts, sorry for honest people who really are willing to pay a back end, but this usually never happens.

            Thanks for "clarifying" Armstrong.

I thought I was fairly clear when I said "This would be paid by a percentage of the backend profit, if/when the book would make it to print. It will at least be web bound. Currently, it's more of a callobaration than a money machine. There is potential for it to become that. I don't appreciate your words that make it sound like we are trying to trick someone into penciling for us, which is not the case.

I intentionally wrote the first few lines of the original post to inform the potential artists of the pay situation and make everything clear, not to make it ambiguous and misleading. Normally, if there is not a page-rate, there is a percentage in the end. This is not the first" pecentage on the back-end" post in history, you act as if it is.

My conscious is clear. For some reason you do not understand my post.

Also, I agree with many times, not every time, it does not pay in the end. I have personally been involved in the receiving end of $0 a handful of times. It's the nature of the busines. If the book does not make any money, and someone is guaranteed a percentage of profits, then that person makes any money. At the mininum, if the project is followed through with, there is a finished project for his/her portfolio.

However, if a solid book is put together with quality art and writing, people will like it, and it can make money. I would never profit from something and not share the percentage that was guaranteed in a contract.

I do know that in this book, the writer is open to suggestions and the artist would have a bit more creative freedom than I have seen in the past. The story is fairly long and in depth, so there is potential for a solid series if solid work is put in. If you are all about the money, you may want to stick to page-rate gigs. Potential is all I can guarantee.

I hope this post makes the gig more "clear" than it was when formerly posted.

For anyone who doesn't realise that art isn't the only aspect of comics that people get paid for, writing also has a monetary value, in fact in most creative industries, that value is higher than art. So Heagsta is in fact offering free writing to deserving artists.

Sorry ArmstrongArts, but my conscience required me to tell the truth.

Salmonguy might have a point if an artist posted an ad looking for scripts to draw and Heagsta responded. But that's not the case. He is seeking services not providing one.

Anyways, lets not derail the thread. This is a help wanted ad, not the appropriate place to have the debate. As long as people are upfront and honest about the compensation there's no problem.

I agree. Furthermore, this is a legit post and we are anxious to have someone pencil for our project that will hopefully become a creative member of the team. Thanks
