"Guardians of The Galaxy" Offical Movie Thread

The Annihilation event was some of the best Cosmic shit in a comic I've read. Its because of that series and the other minis around that time, that I became a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy and anything Marvel space related. The art wasn't bad or great, but I got a full story out of it.

I never cared for the original team and that brown kid from Captain Planet with CA's shield.

Sure, I just made it through the first volume of Annihilation; and in the second volume I just stopped. I couldn't find it in myself to give a damn about Silver Surfer, or any of these jokers.

It's a hard sell. A series that was in a similar boat for me forever was Green Lantern, until the Sinestro Corps war. I'm not particularly a fan of Ethan Van Sciver and his often asymmetrical art; but that series finally sold me on the Green Lantern universe being cool.

This is just a fight Marvel is coming to handicapped for me. The other "big" cosmic thing I read was Infinity Gauntlet and that was pretty lame too. All the power in the universe and ol' nuts-for-a-chin still gets clowned by some humans?

I'll see when this comes out on DVD. I gave Avengers a shot, and that didn't change my mind of that franchise either. I like Cap. I like Hulk. I don't care about the rest of these characters.

You're missing out. But if you're not into Silver Surfer, GoTG, Celestials, Nova, Infinity gems, Thanos, Adam Warlock, Ronan and all thats jazz, then yeah, skip it. Even though this movie is getting mad love from regular people who have no idea who Thanos is, this movie delivered way more than the Avengers did.

Which, near as I can tell, means they're mixing up the colors. 'Cause the Tesseract is blue, the Aether was red, and The Orb was purple... Wikipedia sez that should be Mind, Power and Space, but clearly not.

Yeah, the movie versions are different from the comic versions.

I saw it last night. I thought it was pretty good, but had a few glaring problems.

- I agree with dmario: Why are the Nova Corps a bunch of seemingly comically inept cops? Where's that Nova power?

- WAAAAY too many long winded expositional speeches. Whole lotta tell, not a lot of show.

- Gamora was definitely a little weak here. Wouldn't have minded a little more work on her story.

- Also got a little overly sappy in some scenes.

Don't get me wrong. Still plenty fun, would watch again. Groot and Rocket are fantastic. I'd rank it on par with the Thor movies.

I just got back from seeing it, I actually liked it. In its own weird way, everything seemed plausible, and I thought Star Lord was cool.

Just saw it with my wife (who's usually resistant to "superhero crap") and we both loved it! Nice balance of action, humor, and character development/storytelling.

You know...I don't want to hear that Hollywood isn't willing to give someone a shot. There is NOTHING in James Gunn's ouvre that suggests he would be up to the task of doing what he's done with this movie. (I mean no offense to him, of course.)

Disney is famous for hiring on the fringe directors, they scout for them.
That's how they got the director of Tron Legacy, and Oblivion.

I always like there movie productions all the way back to when they created Buena Vista entertainment.
Really happy they acquired Marvel, I think we will get years of High Quality entertainment.

Meeehhhh... "Hollywood" =/= Disney alone... but it's possible we're seeing a new trend, and it's long past due I think.

Also, I think I disagree with Gunn's ouvre not lending itself to describing his ability as a director. I think Slither and Super lend themselves far more obviously to his potential in GotG than THX 1138 or American Grafitti did for Lucas when he created Star Wars, but Disney is looking to tap that same lightning.
