  • "Guardians of The Galaxy" Offical Movie Thread

Noticed there is no thread for this.

I have NO IDEA who these people are and just passed the book in the 90s during the whole 2099 stint.
But I have to say they are going BALLS OUT with this cast, its pretty freaking gutsy to do. That being said, here is the lastest person to be cast...

Deadline is reporting that The Walking Dead star Michael Rooker has joined Guardians of the Galaxy. Rooker will play the role of Yondu, who was a founding member of the original Guardians of the Galaxy in the source material. Rooker's casting comes as no surprise as he has worked with director James Gunn on both his previous films, Slither and Super.
Other cast members confirmed for the film are "Parks and Recreation" actor Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. Zoe Saldana is in talks to join as Gamora. Guardians of the Galaxy's roster is also said to include Groot and Rocket Raccoon. The film is currently in pre-production in the UK, with Gunn at the helm, and is targeting an August 1, 2014 release.

I think a good jumping on point for the Guardians of the Galaxy and related characters is Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest. It's pretty fun, and worth looking into.

That said, though: I STILL don't see how a movie with these guys will work.

I don't mind the cast so far. I just want a solid film. I love this incarnation of the Guardians a lot so I don't it to be ruined.

This movie sounds like a straight to DVD/Blu-ray kind of film.

They're pushing GOTG really hard at Marvel right now. 3 of there major series, and there webcomic star that cast.

And I don't think its a coincidence that Tony is involved with the group in his Godkiller armor.

They can teleport to earth at will, so thinking we will see something tie in with GOTG at the end of the latest Iron Man.

The cast they picked so far looks really good, just wish they could have gotten Jason Momoa as Drax.
But he kind of ruined that for himself asking for more money as an unknown actor..

Also hoping for a guest star spot by Nova.

Jason wasn't even asking that much money. Being a member of Sag you can get an hourly rate and had he just gone with that he would of gotten more money then he was asking. The point of flat rates is to avoid the sag hourly rate. Batista ask for less money because he is on a lower tier in the acting world then Jason. Jason came from Game of Thrones which is a hot series granted he's not on it anymore. The thing is it wasn't unreasonable for what he asked its just Marvel being cheap asses like they were with Terrance Howard.

I'm also hoping Nova shows up.

I would say Batista and Momoa both suck equally as actors so they might as well go with the cheaper one. Personally, I would prefer they just get someone who can actually act.

Do you really need to act to be Drax

Some of the characters they can't use.

Adam is part of the Fantastic four buyout.

Just a little soapboxing on the Disney buyout.

I pretty much love everything they have been doing with all their franchises.
They have been a very good film company all the way back to when they started Buena Vista entertainment.

The degree of polish they demand is what I have always wanted.

Star Wars will have a new movie every year now. A main Arc every other year, with a side movie handled by different creative teams in between.

I've been screaming for that forever.

The Marvel movies are always high budget films much like their old animated division, with people who love what they are working on.
Eventually we will have 3 movies a year just from them, with a main arc movie every other year.

And Tron Legacy looks like it will be going forward with at least one more movie, and a possible remake of the dark hole.

I'm so glad they are allowing these movies to be enjoyed by all audiences without adding R rated material just for the sake of being edgy. Like the whole incest thing in ultimates 3, and Tonys alcoholism.

It's great for me to have 4-5 movies to look forward to a year now.
