    Hey All,

I was wondering, I am finding it very hard to come up with a good pose for my PSF piece, All the poses i want to use are used very offen. My fear is that if i use one i will get called out for it...

How do you guys make your poses seem fresh and not over used?.

Something else i stuggle with is....When you find a pose that is excalty the one you want, how do you change it, so your not doing a direct copy???...

I am finding this very frustrating, Keep in mind i still need to use refs, As my anatomy is not good enough yet

    Thanks

your thinking too much into it. A punch is a punch and a kick is a kick. there are natural poses for different actions. the most obvious way to vary an action pose is to change the angle of the scene. even changing it slightly will force you to shift the angle at which you view the body so the pose will seem fresh. try changing to a 3 quarters view and angle it slight from a worms eye view. Or if not just experiment. try different angles until something looks cool.

I typically tell my daughter what I want her to do, then take cellphone pictures as she bounces around the room.

Learn anatomy, and do the poses from your head without copying. Or if you absolutely need to copy something because imagination is too hard for you, take your own pictures for your ref. But since you seem to be a slave to the ref, you will be limited by your ref instead of pushing the envelope with your drawing.
Your drawing will be inferior to your ref if you don't make it your own. And if your ref isn't that good to begin with, well...

Sorry for the tone, but i'm starting to really be annoyed by seeing countless posts of yours where as the grown-up you are you don't seem to understand the difference between referencing and stealing and being a fraud. How did you manage to get in life that far without going to jail if you REALLY don't understand what is being repeated ad nauseam to you, ie "don't take someone else's stuff and claim it your own"?

Ugh. Anyway, feel free to ignore the tone, my first paragraph however is an answer to your question.

LOL@PR, sounds like my daughter she is autistic so there's hardly ever a moment where she is not bouncing around the room.

Deth- I see what your saying, I am still having issues with doing diff angles, I am just gonna have to keep at it. I may have to ref something for my PSF, It will prob cost me some votes but i want to present something decent.... I have something very very cool in mind, but i could never draw it, the angle is way out of my league, I have tried a few times in the last few hours, and i just can't get it right.... I do have a fall back idea thou...so i will present something anyways

          Thanks for the advice.

I am gonna ignore your tone, as it is not productive...

But how would someone draw a subject they have never seen or heard of, Without at least seeing a pic of it??. That is ref to me...

Did you even see my piece in the weekly sketch group???, I had to look up the subject on google because i had never heard of him, then i drew something that was not at all copied or ref'd.....

I am doing my best to learn, and comments like your's.....not cool man, you could have easly wrote the first part and been done with it....

Ask a simple question and i get jumped on.....

How can you not grasp the difference between reference and copying line for line? Of course nobody is asking you to know off the bat how spiderman's costume or how a precise car model looks. That's what ref is for. You look at those while you draw, so your picture is on model.

Taking someone else's drawing of said objects and tracing them line for line is stealing.

Do you get it now? I've seen this explained to you already a lot of times, reason why I'm somewhat annoyed. Learning how to draw is hard, you don't master it over night, or even over a year. So bad news:it takes effort and time.

And I didn't jump on you for nothing, you have somewhat of case already, and I epidermically reacted to this:

It just seemed you were ready to go at it again. All you care about it seems is avoiding getting caught, not doing the right thing. But I might be assuming a bit here.

You mentioned having done a few pieces without copying/tracing. Good. Keep at it, practice, and maybe the initial smell you left will eventually dissipate. Copying, "getting inspired", is part of the process of learning, but these should be presented as study pieces and copies, not originals, as I know you fully understand.

Good luck, sincerely. It's a fun journey if you decide to take it.

As for your initial question, you received very valid answers.

All i want is to draw ORG art, I am tried of ppl jumping on me, or accussing me of copying or tracing something.. It's getting old... if i came across as "Not wanting to be caught" i am sorry, that's not what i am concerned with....

My only concern is learning to draw proper, I wouldn't be putting all the money/time/effort into a art course if i didn't want to learn...

Can we please drop this, and when i ask a question about something not drum up old stuff???. lest move forward for crying out loud... My PSF and pummel are both in the works and are both very org.. I hope everyone likes them?..

If "ORG" means from your own noodle, then you're on the right track. But, and this might be just me, I'm getting the sense that you're specifically using the word "ORG" and staying away from the word "original."

You need to learn how to just draw without looking at anything. I watch my kid do it every day. He just sits and draws, just as I used to sit and draw when I was his age. You have to know how to sketch out a figure from the ground up by this point. If you don't, then you need to learn to. I copied Byrne and Miller like a fiend...when I was 12. Showed it to my friends and claimed it as my own. But eventually I learned how to draw on my own. You have to learn how to create a figure from your head. You can't be Leinil Yu from the get-go. It takes LOTS of work.

BTW, there are many many artists with a lot of talent who would KILL to get the attention you've gotten over the last few weeks. You need to understand that YOU were the one who came here, YOU were the one who posted traced work, and YOU were the one that took your ball and went home and then came back again. This wasn't years ago, it was just a couple of weeks ago. You're really going to have to earn people's trust here. You need to understand that. You may not think it's fair, but there will be suspicion for a while. You'll have to try and get used to it.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it will pay for the search.

When i say ORG, i mean original, original, original.... better?

And just cause i don't post the sketch book a day of drawings i do doesn't mean i don't draw ALOT!, as for a attention........

They can have it, I never wanted it.

But i have to wonder.... If we didn't want attention......then why to we draw and then post it all over the net????. Thats a little conterdictive(SP?) don't you think?...you know what, don't answer that, just let this thread die....

My work will speak for it self soon enough, Hater's are gonna hate, I can't do anything about that..

Someone else has mentioned it, but it's worth repeating - change the angle of the camera.

If you see a pose you like, but it's been done to death, change the angle. Set the camera on the floor. Put it was above the subject. Do something that is not the original.

Thread is long and prob already said before but there's a million ways to do the same pose. Change the camera angle, change the camera lens, aperture (depth of field), play with perspective, play with lighting & shadows, etc, etc..

And Now For Something Completely Different!

                          ArtOnStuff:
I am not familiar with your work or your previous posts. I will not comment on those things.
I am posting this because I THINK I understand some of your frustration.
A long time ago I wanted very much to work for Marvel Comics. I drew lots of pages. One day I suddenly was struck with the thought that there are only so many ways to show one guy punching another in the face! I was suddenly confronted with a dilemma: how to grow as an artist.
My solution, and one I will present to you, is change your subject matter! Draw a love story, or a medical emergency story, or a story about some dork who works in a cubicle, or a story about a lawyer presenting his final arguments before a jury. Draw something where people keep their feet on the ground, look just like everyone you ever met, and nobody hits any one else.
                          I am totally serious.
I suspect you are in a rut and need to expand.
Go outside with a pad of paper, ONE pencil, ONE eraser and quickly sketch people as they are. Don't try to be too precise! Don't try to capture their likeness. Capture GESTURE, BALANCE, FLOW! Learn the human body! If your lead breaks, just chew the end of the wood to expose some more. Seriously. This does not require precision.
Do this for a few months (Yes, a few months at a minimum) and you will find that when you return to the things you are doing now you will have improved much.
I do not say you will be a professional. I just say you will have improved.

Have you ever read "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" ?

I really think you just need to worry about the basics of construction. Starting with a gesture to get the proportions, motion lines, center points of balance and all of that down. And then reference anatomy books to apply the proper anatomy to it. If you do this often enough you won't have to worry about people calling you on things because you'll no longer be using swiping or tracing as a crutch. The more you gesture the more understanding you'll have of a body in motion. Instead of tracing outlines, learn how things are constructed. That is the basis of eventually being able to draw straight out of your head. If you don't start doing this you'll always be stuck.

I won't beat a dead horse here but I do think you need to learn the basics and work your way up from there. You seem to be wanting to run before walking. I suggest taking everything back to formula and actually learning how to construct figures and backgrounds. It's long hard work and it doesn't happen overnight but the end result is something to be proud of instead. I looked up a couple of sites I thought might help you out.

                              http://www.scribd.com/doc/2080605/Figure-Drawing-Basics

                              http://www.drawinghowtodraw.com/draw...e-drawing.html

Here's some books you may want to buy as well:
                              http://www.amazon.com/How-Draw-Comic...3463995&sr=8-1
This was my first how to draw book (when I was 10) and actually still use it. Of course I'm on my fourth copy.

                              http://www.amazon.com/Vanishing-Poin...3464131&sr=8-3

                              http://www.amazon.com/Perspective-Ma...3464131&sr=8-9
This is a nice book for learning perspective....although it's also covered in "How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way"

Another suggestion is to put the Cintiq away for a while and use traditional mediums...IE: Pencil, Paper.
For the money spent on that thing you could have gotten a nice drafting table, pencils, inks, rulers, papers...etc.
                              Nothing beats drawing on paper.

As for reference, I have lots of magazines and books as well as google for that. And as everyone else has stated, use it for reference only. I know it's so tempting to trace when it's so easy working digitally. I recently was doing a panel where I needed to have a guy looking through a scope of a rifle. I struggled to get it right and was tempted to trace my reference pic but the angle was wrong. Glad I didn't...It feels much better knowing you've done it yourself and it's also part of learning.

Hope this helps at least a little.
