It comes down to clean access to those profiles. Making someone go through the hassle of different uses profiles isn't clean use at all. I think creating a new sub forum. Create a portfolio and go from there. Updating and having links in it to allow for a person easy access instead of digging for things. The easier the access the better. If they are interested further looking into your work a link will lead them but also have contact information and possible what your standard rates are.

Let me hit you guys with some knowledge.jk
There are a miriad of ways someone could view another users art. However we arent specifically talking about how the members on the site that know almost everyone by name and have had a chance to see each others art grow over the years find each other. We are talking about catering to individuals who have little to no familiarity with the users or even the site. Its about making it dumbproof and accessible for anyone with a gig to see what we penciljackers have to offer them.
I think it should be as cut and dry as someone saying," I need a penciler...hmmm okay here is a forum of just pencilers samples." then they contact who they would like and than pays them millions of dollars.
This is how I envision it.
I would put up a thread in pencilers and colorists. As an example my pencil thread would go something like this: 2 -two page sequentials with links to more. I would also put in one cover and maybe one or two comissions of varied style or complexity. Have some bio and contact info and done. I personally, on occaision, bump my thread if it got to far from the first page with either new art or just a update on what I am currently working on or looking for.
Now if we're worried these threads would be to cluttered than we can Pummel style clean out a sub-forum for a fresh batch and artists if they still want to be seen would simply post again. This could be a quarterly kind of thing."A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still."
Never argue with an Idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with exp.

true but Penciljack is jam-packed with talent and we just need to make it more accessible. Which I believe PJ can do."A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still."

the artist showcase used to be split up into pencils, inks, colors, and writers, exactly as you envisioned. I liked it better the way you suggest (the old way)
I too have had problems finding inkers and colorists, because most of the stuff is pencillers, or out and out illustrators in the artist showcase.
Some way to identify inkers and colorists would be useful. Finding pencillers on PJ is a breeze.

Many artists overlap. I'm both a penciller and an inker (this really just means I ink my own work). I don't think you need sub-categories - only what you do in the thread title. For example: hadesillustrations (Alex Williamson): penciler, inker
This way a search for pencilers and/or inkers in the category will have my name pop up. Remember, there's several guys that do it ALL (I'm a sucky colorist and letterer), so would these guys have to have make four different threads?Cheers, Alex

I think, for the regular members of this forum, the best way to advertise yourself is in your signature. A simple blurb that says what you do and if you're available for work would suffice. Since most also have their websites in their sig, it would be a simple matter of clicking on the link after seeing your skill set and availability. In that aspect, you'd be advertising in every thread you're involved in instead of one specific place someone may never see.Check out Film Grouch!

Also if I'm starting a company and do a google search for artists and happen upon this site I doubt I'm gonna scan through every discussion thread looking for signature links to potentially hire. Maybe the comics biz is just drastically different but that sounds kinda silly imo.

The link in the signature is to spread the word about your work as much as possible. (in hope that someone would stumble upon it)
And the "portfolio" thread would be meant for employers who seek artists for a specific job.

Ive never received commision requests from being a PJ member. not that I've looked much as a PJ member but no one has ever been like " hey, I liked your PUMMEL piece draw me a dead Harry potter". It would be nice to hear that once in a while so I'm down for exploring things further.Raised as a babe in drawing arenas to become the art warrior that I am today.

That, ultimately, is up to Penciljack. He's made aware of the thread here, and I'm sure he's keeping an eye on it. I think what he wants is a good way to implement it without it being a mess. I'm just playing devil's advocate in the meantime.Last edited by amadarwin; 09-28-2011, 12:19 AM.Check out Film Grouch!

And I end up ignoring a lot of, "hey wanna draw my story for free (or backend profits that will never happen)"... requests everywhere I post.
