  • First official Spiderman movie costume pic

Again. Keep all your nasty garbage off my Thread. This is movie related talk not whether some of you are blind or not.
has anyone looked for the Lizard in the Background of this pic?

    OK, I'll start...

Horrible costume. Don't **** with a classic costume.

Again, reboot is pointless. First trilogy was a near 3 billion dollar franchise worldwide. Reboot Fantastic Four. Reboot Daredevil. Reboot anything other than Spidey, because it didn't need one.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it will pay for the search.

I dunno . . . Tobey/Peter was getting pretty whiney towards the end. I agree that the franchise doesn't need a reboot, just a new direction.

Now, if they're so eager to reboot, then I can understand making a departure from the last movie, but they should do that by changing the things the movies added, not the source costume. Instead, they did the reverse: they kept the spider logo (just with two LONG back legs), and the weird mesh-pattern which, as someone already pointed out, looks like basketballs.

But I think this guy looks like he'd do a good job playing Peter Parker, so I'll wait until I see a trailer or something before I cry about it.

I'll need to see a face mask before I can properly judge, seems alright but I'm not digging the blue making its way into the gloves. I also find it weird that they would reboot a successful franchise, I can see rebooting the Hulk and such but what was wrong with the Spidey movies (with certain exceptions for the 3rd film).
I am excited as hell for the Lizard though, I cant wait to get a peek at him!

I guess I'm going against the majority here when I like the idea of a reboot. It seems like they're somewhat incorporating a bit of Ultimate Spider-Man into the movie franchise and I actually like Ultimate Spidey a lot more than the overly convulted normal Spidey comic. It just seems a lot more fun and interesting when Peter's a teen and has to deal with becoming a brand new superhero than being a middle-aged guy with a mid-life crisis who goes flipping around town in tights acting like a teenager. The bad thing is that we have to do the whole "With power comes responsibility/Uncle Ben" thing again for the 100th damn time.

Plus the best thing about the reboot is that it might actually do the Gwen Stacey relationship/death thing some justice rather than the weird thing they did with her in Spider-Man 3. Unless they're going the Ultimate Spidey route with her. Which would then be pretty ****ing interesting and ballsy.

As for the costume pic, I'm so-so about it. The guy playing the new Peter looks right as a gangly teenagered Spidey but the costume does look too overly complicated now. I'm just hoping that the mask looks good, because that'll be the deal-breaker for me.

It still reads as Spiderman to me ... and hopefully it will for others ... that is what counts. MY guess as to the costume change is more finanical then anything. They want to sell toys ... there was a million Spiderman 1- 3 toys. This looks different so it may sell. Honestly, for my, and it is only my oppinion ... I am more worried about the story and the acting then anything else at this point. The effects will rock ... the costume will look okay ... it all hinges on the page and the director at this point.

I'm with you the kid looks the part more than Toby did, I don't think I ever thought he made a good spiderman except when he had the mask on and was being witty. He was a little too awkward in his part. The only problems I have with this so far are the
                  1. The reboot(did it need one? maybe a reboot of spiderman 3 :P)
                  2. the costume, I agree it's a little much I like what somone said about basketballs.

not sure if I'll check the theater out on this one based on what i've seen can't wait to see a trailer.

BTW, Emma Stone confirmed the web shooters last night on the Golden Globes red carpet. MTV interviewed and asked about the buttons on the picture and she said it was a "device" that shoots the webs.

I like it. It's a movie version, but it's obviously Spidey. The "spider on a web" look from the original costume isn't reading well, though.

The mask is the most important (and most difficult) aspect of the costume, so we'll see.

I think once they get a better lit picture (daytime maybe?), the costume will read much better. From far away you'll never see the texture anyways.

Hmm, wasn't the first film about Peter being a teen and having to deal with becoming a brand new superhero? Yeah, it was. The first trilogy didn't really span more than maybe three years, if even, and by mixing everything up from regular 616 continuity was more like Ultimate Spidey than 616 Spidey in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to watch this film when it comes out. But my feelings from the very first time I heard about this was, and remains, that it's way too soon. I'm not sure what audience they're going to try and appeal to that won't remember that there was just a Spider-Man trilogy that ended less than four years ago. And as bad as everyone proclaims Spider-Man 3 to be, it still took in $890M worldwide. Eight Hundred and Ninety MILLION. This isn't Ang Lee's Hulk that Marvel hoped everyone would forget. This was a very successful trilogy of films, all three of which are on the All Time Top 20 Domestic Box Office chart.

It just has an air of bad karma to me. Throw all these "hot-at-the-moment" young actors into this reboot of a franchise that didn't need it. I dunno. We'll see...

Ill reserve judgment for when its a clean pic in daytime without him being all trashed. Most of the costume right now is ripped up and stomped on, a lot of the blue parts have black smudges on them from dirt etc. Of course the mask will make or break this, but here is hoping that its not hard to get it right.

It doesnt help that this has so much shopping as well.

Btw ty for actually closing a derailed thread for once, I was pleasantly surprised. Usually those types of threads are common on this site and its nice to see the mods cutting back on some the 4chan type randomness.
