  • ** Iron Man 2 - Movie Thread **

Figured it's time to start a new thread of all things Iron Man 2 related. Marvel has just announced their new movie line up release dates and some casting has now been made official.

    First up, new release dates

    Iron Man 2 - May 7, 2010
    Spider-Man 4 - May 6, 2011
    Thor - June 17, 2011
The First Avenger: Captain America - July 22, 2011
    The Avengers - May 4, 2012

And now Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson are officially in Iron Man 2 as Whiplash and Black Widow

And apparently they're already buildings sets as Favreau and crew are seen here...

I love Scarlett, but as the Black Widow? Seems a bit of a stretch.

I'm going to trust Favreau for the moment. I'm not a huge fan of Paltrow, but she was great in the first Iron Man, and I actually liked her for the first time in a long time. But I do agree that she would not be my first pic.

Looks like I will be in the movie theater all summer in 2011.

I would have liked Olivia Wilde for Black Widow. she's already a redhead.

I wasn't familiar with the character Whiplash, but after looking at some of his past costumes I hope they model the movie version on something like this.

Although, I don't think it's an official costume.

          what the hell?

          WHIPLASH?

surely they can do BETTER than that. CRIMSON DYNAMO? TITANIUM MAN? SOMETHING?

hell I'd rather see Madame Masque than this dude.

I think the villain of Iron Man 2 should be a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Either of those guys as villains would be a bit of the rinse repeat as we already saw an armor vs armor bout in the first film. I'd personally dig seeing either of those guys, but general audience would surely find it to be something of a first movie rehash. Better to go with some other type of villain, I'd think.

hell I'd rather see Madame Masque than this dude.
I'm not a big fan of many of the villains in Iron Man's rogues gallery. He has a lot of morts to be sure. Never cared much for Whiplash because he's pretty much the same character as the Constrictor:
              http://www.marvel.com/universe/Constrictor
only Whiplash managed to look goofier:

The movie concept design for Whiplash posted in this thread is very video game/emo looking to me, but it's perhaps a tad better than his last S&M/Watchmen's Comedian costume:

I'd rather see the Mandarin resurrect an Ancient Fin Fang Foom for Iron Man to fight than see him pitted against a bum like Whiplash. Seems a little "meh" to me. I'm sure they could find a better villain. I hope Whiplash will only be a supporting flunky type or something.

It says Iron Man armored adventures. So assuming it's official, it's a design for that new Iron Man animated series.

I'm not going to second guess every news tidbit I hear from this film, maybe I should just ignore any newsbits until a couple of months into shooting. Some things might not even happen. Heck, just a couple of weeks ago, Mickey Rourke was supposedly in the film, then out of the film and now he's in again. I remember the villain for the first one was supposed to be The Mandarin. That didn't happen.

They'll probably reimagine the character in a way so that it doesn't come off as goofy. The might not even mention the name in the film.
Iron Monger sounds just as ridiculous as a villain, but they never called him that. And Jeff Bridges made it work.

If they can maintain the standard of the first film - they'll have done very well.

I'm SURE they can make the Whiplash costume/suit look cool -- but I'm not so sure about making the red energy whips look convincing. Hmmm.

For some odd reason, it looks like Mickey Rourke is going to play Whiplash and Sam Rockwell is playing Justin Hammer. Seems like it should be the other way around.

As for Whiplash as villain, I agree it's not a very compelling choice. Certainly not one to follow the "Iron Monger."
