  • September Training Camp

First things first: Sketchbook has asked that I start the thread this month as he is heading back to school and will soon be buried under a pile of new projects.

Post your monthly pieces. Post your streetfight pieces. Any and every stage of completion up to and including your final submissions.

Post early, post often, and C&C unto others as you would have them C&C unto you. Get an fresh pair of eyes on your work, and share you insights with other fighters.

Question: I have been voted into the M category so should I post random stuff that I do here?

Blacklight If it's part of your monthly or is for a streetfight, be it a thumbnail, a rough sketch, a set of poses, or something else, it goes here. Whatever class you're in, this thread is intended to be a sounding board for you.

I like your painting so far, but I drew over some things that might help her frame. She's an amazon, you have to remember that she's very strong, and her physique reflects that. Usually some artists will draw her more closer to the average comic female type, but I think compared to what you have here she's still way too skinny.

Last thing would be, she looks like she's distressed, like she's about to faint and fall over instead of deflecting anything. Give her some emotion, some intensity, she isn't looking deeply in some sunset, she's going to mess someone up in a few seconds.

Coming from a girl who can transform an oil sketch into a finished oil painting in a days work. Am I right Wassy?

Naw. If it was an acrylic sketch, perhaps. But even I can't make oils dry faster than my fastest dryers.

Blacklight Keith's comments are spot on. I'd add that her pose looks a little static considering that her lasso is supposed to be moving; maybe you could add a bit of a twist in her abdominal muscles to show she's moving. Also, your colors are starting to look a little washed out, and its making her skin look a tad sallow.

Walril The rear figure: The head is too short. If he's supposed to be leaning back, the torso is also too short.
The front figure: the knee is far too narrow, the thigh muscles should not taper that much going into the knee. If the head is tilted back, we should be able to see under the chin.
What're the two figures supposed to be doing here?

Yup, both heads are off a bit. Here's my suggestions.

My 2 cents. My main issue looking at this was the figures looked too stiff and unnatural. Focus on basic anatomy and proportions before adding the bulges and the "stylized" portions. Also added a suggestion to the bottom of the image about the legs.
