Only problem I see is with dropping some to a lower class, it may piss some people off. Not only do they get knocked down, but then the people in the lower class have even further to climb. But I'd say at the least, take a poll. Leave it up for a good long while so everyone has a chance to vote, and maybe note it in the ranked threads so they see it. Either majority rules, or go back to the drawing board and maybe like Spidey said, everyone reweigh and go back to 3 classes.

what if we just reweighed everyone and cut the lightheavy weight division. go back to 3 divisions, light, middle, and heavy

.
As far as Juggy's original question goes- I think that P.R.'s plan would probably work, trimming a little off the top of the Light Heavies and a bit off the bottom of the Middles. I'm with Chris, though, as it does kind of stick in my craw just a bit with moving people, involuntarily, into a lower weight class.
Oscar's idea about a Welterweight (Bantamweight? I forgot how all the boxing weight-classes used to go) is an ok idea too. Only problem with it is that PUMMEL is a bit unweildy with 4 weight classes as is; if we had hundreds of competitors it would be an absolute no-brainer, though, to put another division between the mids and Light Heavies.
Another solution might be to amend the rules for the Light Heavies and Middles to say that you move up to the next weight-class with 2 turns as monthly champ instead of 3? And that guys like Kae Ae, Jesse and Juggertha who had been at the top will receive the bump to Heavies starting next month, (only if they want to do so). Only problem there is that it's going to create a little havoc with any feeling of continuity from May to June in that division. (Also there is the idea that in 3-6 months you might end up with a truly enormous Heavyweight division and nowhere for them to go)
Another idea is to leave things as they are, and take the classes that don't have many competitors (Lightweights) (Heavies), and have the champ in each of those classes pick a topic and then run that class like a battle royal/grand championship sort of thing, where everyone draws the same topic and if you get the most votes you are champ the next month and pick the topic. When there are enough people in a division for 4 or 5 matches with two competitors each, then the division can be re-seeded (based on win/loss or some other criteria) and things can go on as normal?
I've been thrilled to go up against guys with the drawing chops of a Jesse Munoz, Kae Ae, Juggertha and, most recently g0b1in (and Plog next month!). PUMMEL is like a self-paced graduate school in drawing and if you take it seriously you can only improve your own work. That's gotta be reward enough for anyone!

I'm all for moving people up a weight class but I don't think it'd be fair to move anybody down a weight class. Just my thoughts on it.

as long as the competetors above me are at a level that it's attainable for me to beat, it doesn't really make muchg difference to me what my weight class is, I'm here to make portfolio pieces and to improve, not go around IRL saying how awesome I am at a forum.
now if there were tangable prizes involved, that'd be another matter. lol
anyway i agree this is the easiest way to even things out!

Fat In The Middle
Due to the nature of the PUMMEL beast, it seems that we're getting a little chunky in the middle. The Heavies and Lights are getting thinner and thinner, and the Middles and Light Heavies keep packing on the pounds.
The commissioners are trying to think of a way to fairly even this out a bit, but I was wondering - do any of you munchkins have any ideas/thoughts?Tags: None
