If someone's having repeated no shows, chances are they're not keen on coming back anyways. If they do want to rejoin, we usually ask them to start with some streetlights to gauge their commitment.

Ya what juggie said. The thing is tho some one might have had issue like I did and couldn't get on to tell you they had to drop. So they miss 2 pummels. If you drop them to the lower weight class they are just not gonna come back. And hell if they do I am sure if you dropped a high ranked light heavy into the bottom of the middles I am sure the middles would be pleased to get KOed every month by them until they could get rid of them. It is not really fair to the others at that piont. Frankly I don't really see it as an issue, it is not like a ton of ppl that dropped 2 no shows on us have come back and rocked the boat is it. Having that punishment as a deterent to ppl so they are not no shows only works if they give a shit about coming back.PuMMeL : Wins 9 --- Losses 11 --- KO 7

Dropping someone a whole rank for whatever reason is not going to happen. We did it once at someone's request to start again at the very bottom and it didn't work out. I think we do just about as much as we can to discourage no-shows. I know that I keep track and don't tolerate it.
Me, personally, I don't see much of a need to force a change as long as there are at least 4 people in a rank. But I also understand it's going to be that much harder to get the 3 wins from a higher rank if there's only a few people in the higher rank.
i'm not sure I explained it as best I could, but these were my ideas for a wildcard month.
3 polls. LW vs Mids, Mids vs LHW, and LHW vs HW.
Allow multiple votes.
If you get more votes than half(or some other percentage) of the higher weight class, you move up a weight class.
Ranked matches are still in effect. You'll still need get more votes than your ranked opponent. the usual +1 for a win, -2 for a loss, and -4 for no shows.
Essentially, it's still a ranked match, but you're also given the chance to move up based on how well you do against the rank above.
The only thing I'm not sure of is if we can have that many people in a poll.

Well as someone who is part of the problem I'll just quickly say that I think a 2 month suspension is a great idea, yes I know that means that I would be suspended, it gives a person enough time to handle whatever was in the way or enough time to realize that while this may be fun its not important to them. When they come back toss them at the bottom of the weight class they were originally in. I think moving them down a weight class wouldnt help anyone considering this is about challenging people in your your own talent area. Of course people would say f it if they got moved down. It defeats the purpose of pummel which is to be challenged."A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still."

I disagree with everybody on everything!
Nah, just kidding.
Yeah, the dropping a class bit was probably overkill but a suggestion I just wanted to make if for no other reason than to see what the response was. Didn't know if a class drop had ever been brought up, considered, or discussed before.

So would only one person progress from each match...for instance if three of the LHW were fighting three HW and 2 of the LHW beat out 3 HW, would both LHW ascend to HW or would just the one with more votes? What if 2 LHW tied for the most number of votes? What if only LHW showed up to the match? Would they all go up to HW or would only the winner? Or is strictly a LHW versus HW as a group thing? If all the LHW competing get more % votes than the HW do all the LHW move up?
There's a LOT of stuff I don't understand.

Alright, I'll do an example:
We'll say we have
Heavyweights: Light-heavies:
Ha LHWa
Hb LHWb
Hc LHWc
Hd LHWd
LHWe
LHWf
EVERYONE draws the same topic for the month
One poll for all heavies and LHWs with multiple votes. And we'll say the ranks look like this:
Hb
LHWa
LHWf
Hc
LHWe
***50%****
Ha
Hd
LHWc
LHWd
LHWb
So, LHW a, c, and e will move up because they got more votes than half of the higher rank.
Now, Hb, and c got more votes than Ha, and Hd(their ranked matches) so Hb and Hc would also get the win for the monthly ranked match.
Essentially, it's a wildcard and a ranked match in one. It gives the opportunity to move up, and gives the reward/punishment of the ranked matches. Which will make sure people show up and put effort in. It does rely a little bit on chance, I am assuming there's not going to be a large percentage of a weightclass that moves up.
Plus it would be kind of cool to do something different for Pummel's 2 year anniversary.

Yeah, I agree that a summertime event is needed, but I'd like to see it something simpler.
Here's my proposal.
-Each weight class has ONE topic as their monthly challenge for June.
-We have the ranked matches as usual... just using that ONE topic in each class.
-We have the ranked polls as usual, but we also have a class-wide poll.
-The winner of the class-wide poll moves up a class.
Simple. We still have our ranked matches, and we'll still have people climbing with their records. We'll just have a bit of a summertime shakeup. My Deviant Art page

It is simpler, and I like the idea, but it's only going to force one person to move up in each class. I'm not sure that's going to fix the issue, but I say we start here, and go with it.

I would say that instead of class pummel AND regular matches just do the one month of just the class one. Not many people are gonna do two for a month if they, me, are having a hard time doing one a month."A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still."

Leta face it even the Street Fights are drying up because everyone is busy, and MOST people are focussing on their ranked matches. SO if you want another EPIC failure for an event I suggest by all means keep the ranked matches going. If you want a success pull them for the wildcard participants and let's get down to business because right now we are suffering DEATH BY COMMITEE."The next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me REAL hard" -Batman

I wasnt going to comment earlier because I assumed someone else would. Now I am not so sure, but the class poll doesnt have any extra work involved...it appears to me to be merely an additional poll where everyone can vote for the best piece of the class.

I think I ultimately side with Armstrong in the idea that we should probably just leave well enough alone, and have to live with smaller groups in the lightweight and Heavyweight divisions of PUMMEL? Right now I am not seeing a ton of Light Heavies clamoring to move up to the Heavies, and since I'm a "drawing machine" I could probably do one or two street-fights if the demand was there. It's not like I'm ducking anybody, but nobody has called any of the Heavies out, which tells me a) the Light Heavies are satisfied to try and move up through the ranks or b) they are collectively too busy to do street fights right now.
There are clear cut methods already in place for moving up (I certainly availed myself of them about a year ago to go from the middleweights to the Light Heavies, myself), IF that is what people want to do.HW(ret.):W42/ L29/KO16

One more thing, I believe that Chris Majors and Rob W. Sales moved up to the heavy-weight division before I did, but didn't participate in any ranked matches? Perhaps the mods could PM these guys and see if they are interested in rejoining that division, and that would mean 3 more competitors in June in the Heavies (Morganza is going to be in the heavies starting in June, also).HW(ret.):W42/ L29/KO16

I honestly think the wildcards are the way to go. We are trying to hard here let's make it easier not more complicated. The first round of wildcards moved FOUR LW into the MW. The second round was a flop because we INSISTED on having the ranked matches. PUMMELMANIA would have flown if we cancelled the ranked matches, but almost NO one wanted to hear that, and the funny thing was ... Out of all the guys who swore up and down that they could do both ONLY like two guys did, the other like twenty ONLY did their ranked matches.

I don't get how running just a wildcard one month will work for everyone. Can you explain it?
