  • 2 v 2 Brawl: Gauging Interest and Discussion

Lately, I've been reminiscing about draw-offs I've seen around the net years ago. It also got me to think about old message boards that are long gone, and the artists who collabed and made art on them.

I get weepy inside thinking about it.

So with that said, why don't we try something new? Here's what I'm thinking:

    • A team of 2 people each, with your team name (example: Harlem Heat, Team Knight Rider, etc.)
    • Any medium allowed (except for 3D)
    • And possibly a "reserve" for each team if we don't have enough people to confidently do this.

Basically, no real guidelines outside of 2 people on each team, that way we keep it open as possible.

That can mean one pencils and one inks, one does linework and one colors, 2 people do both coloring and/or linework and just combine their efforts, etc. There's a lot of room to do whatever people would like here, and it can work smoothly like a normal draw off, except with 2 people working together.

This can be a cool opportunity to produce something with someone you might have always wanted to work with but never had the excuse to ask, make a cool pic with someone you know already, or maybe just jump into something new you've never tried before.

That's it in a nutshell, If anyone would like to do this and throw their hat in, or have any suggestions/concerns, feel free to say whatever here.

I'm certainly interested in helping to see how this will work in a "proof of concept" sort of way, Keith. I would be willing to do any sort of linework pencils or inks. My colors aren't quite there yet for coloring anybody else's work, though(a man's gotta know his limitations ).

    So sign me up!

I think this is a strong idea. It allows people to practice and improve their weaker skills, without having to retread areas where they're already strong, plus reduces the amount of time required each month, which may encourage more participation.

My only concern with this, and the other new initiatives, is that they'll take interest away from pummel itself, which is currently healthy (ish). Sometimes, too much fiddling can just confuse and kill everything off.

Though in the spirit of evolution (only the strong survive!) I reckon we try it all, and see what gets the takeup.

Sean: Thanks a lot, I'll make a list in the first post of participants and add you to it.

Jim: Thanks, and that's a worry I had as well. But I figure, if the Grand Tournament we just had here ran for months straight without problems for both activities, we can also handle a one-off (for now anyway) brawl as well. I'll schedule it so it doesn't interfere too much with Pummel. Are you thinking of jumping in as well?

I tried to get something going like this a couple of months ago but nobody was interested. Lol maybe I don't have enough clout.

I'll be interested but I only just started Pummel again and I want to focus all my energy on that for the moment.

I always liked this idea...it brings a little more fun doing collabs with people and battle all in one! So do we need to find a teammate? Or are you gonna set them up randomly cause I can see this going south fast if u got 2 Heavies together
              I'm in either way!

Keith and I were talking about this awhile back…

I wanted to do a 2 v 2 challenge where we design a Jager like from pacific rim….you know how theres two pilots? two artists.

We'd find a design by passing it back and forth between us, until we get something that we're happy with. he draws it and I'll color it.

I wonder if a challenge like that would work.

Sure, I'll throw my hat in for the first one. I guess I'd be up for pencils, inks or colours, I need to get some practice in across the board.

That's a really cool idea Teratophile! Who's drift compatible with whom? And the whole 2 vs 2 sounds pretty neat, maybe my stuff would get coloured for once, haha :P

What if this sort of competition was set up for writer/artist pairs as well? Seeing the results would be fun!

I'd love to see writer/artist pairs... but that may be for selfish reasons! I don't work in the standard comic book sort of way in general so would find it more annoying than amusing to collab with an artist... but I'm an illustrator because I ADORE taking seeds of ideas and bringing them to life.

For instance, I would probably totally suck at character design on my own, but if I was working with a writer (or some sort of idea person), I think I could do quite well.

This has certainly piqued my interest, just a quick query: How will each creative team be formed?

I don't believe there'll be a great deal of people banging on my door to partner up, but then again, I don't want to be sandbagging better artists who would tear it up with a stronger partner. Would the teams be a random/lottery type deal, or would the teams be chosen amongst ourselves?

I'm really interested in this whole idea and I agree with Willett's concerns. While I'd love to see a Keith/Teratophile piece, I have no interest in being crushed by one...
