David "V for Vendetta" Lloyd-techniques and influences

I was lucky enough to interview David Lloyd
who was the artist on V FOR VENDETTA
    with Alan moore writing

He has a very distinct style, sometimes
    not even using contour lines.

So in the interview on youtube
    I obviously asked him about
    his techniques and influences-

    BRITISH STYLE OF COMIC ART?

I also asked him about the distinct
    "British style" of unsentimental brutal
comic art which sprang from relentless
World War II war annuals that
were everywhere when we were kids
in the summer months, but had no direct
    equivalent in American comics-

    BRITISH STYLE PART 2-

Also he talks about "bending reality" in
comic art and lots of other things.

nice, info thanks for posting the links.
--I like how he mentioned adding detail loses energy. Although i've heard it before, it was nice to here again. Lately i have been relearning my old rendering and crosshatching styles. I really actually hate over rendered crap because i see so many people try to hide bad drawing behind it.
--if you are the guy asking the questions, (in the how to draw animals clip) i'd like to mention that a comic book page's "composition" is referred to as the layout unless it is a cover or splash page or some sort of single panel. It just helps to avoid confusion. Instead of differentiating between page composition and panel composition.

I actually ran across one part of the interview last night. Very informative. I love how he described how artist do these elaborate buildings with every individual window and bricks, etc. where as he can be just as effective with a hint of the skyline and a few windows dotted here and there. Talented and insightful man. Great interview from just the few minutes I could listen in.

Yes i'm the guy asking the questions!
Original interview was over 4 hours.

    Also,Sorry about the composition/layout
confusion, all the my old art stuff talk
    leaked in there.

I didn't know if he teached or not,
that's new to me, i'll ask him
next time i manage to talk to him.

also check out KICKBACK which is very different
    from vendetta,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcMwmZhHhG4

but still can't manage to hide that dark
take on life that his art seems to have.

He has a very unique approach to lighting,
lights and darks, almost no use of
contour lines, it was really cool to
get up close to alot of his work
    and examine it almost forensically,
    then ask silly questions.

Lots of stuff has been edited out
from the full interview like why he doesn't do
storyboarding for hollywood (a very lucrative line for
big artists like Darrow)-he doesn't need the money
    and he wants creative control.

I just crunched it all down to interview segments
I thought Comic artists and readers would apprectiate
Do check out the stuff from the beginning-
