    P.U.M.M.E.L. - RULES and REGULATIONS

    PUMMEL

    Description:

    One on One Championship League

There are 4 weight classes in PUMMEL.

    Heavyweight
    Light-Heavyweight
    Middleweight
    Lightweight

    Joining PUMMEL:
The first thing you need to do is to create a weigh-in post. Post up three pieces of art that you feel best represent your ability. If you are too new to create a poll, ask a commissioner to do it for you. After 4 days of voting, whichever gets the most votes is where you’ll start! Then you can create a Stats and Records post. Be sure to keep it updated. You will start at the bottom of the class you qualified for. Each time you win, you move up one in the rankings. Each time you lose, you’ll move down two spots in the rankings. Your goal is to move up the ranks and become champion of your division!

    Ways to compete:
There are several different ways to compete in PUMMEL
Ranked Matches – take place once a month. High rank always picks subject. Winner goes up one in rank, loser falls two spots in rank. The polls for these matches must be posted by the 22nd of each month. No shows count as a loss, or a win for the jilted. There are no media restrictions for illustrations done for these matches. Do the best you can with whatever you can within the time given.
Street Fights – can take place anywhere and anytime against anyone. But, you can only participate in one Street Fight at a time. Rules are to be mutually agreed upon, including subject, medium, and deadline. They don’t effect your ranking directly, but they do count against your win/loss record. Your win loss record serves as a tie breaker should you land on the same rank as another participant. Win 3 matches against higher classed opponents though, and you can advance in weight class.
Wildcard matches – Top 5 lightweights, 5 middleweights and light-heavyweights take part in matches against an opponent in the next weight class of their choosing. If they win that match they advance to the next weight class. Same rules as ranked matches apply.
Initial Championship tournament – This tournament has already taken place and was used to determine the initial champions and rankings dependent on how the participants finished.
Ranking spreadsheet thread – please go here to create your profile and stat sheet. Please keep this updated as it will determine the monthly match-ups. Wins and losses in the tournament, streetfights and wildcard matches should all be recorded. You can also gauge your opponent by looking at links to past matches, their win loss record and other stats. Status of the championship tournament brackets are also recorded in the master spreadsheet.

    General rules:
    1. All matches must be one on one
    2. No voting for yourself
    3. No registering multiple accounts to vote for yourself. This = kicked out of the league
    4. Original work only. No tracing or swiping. No photo backgrounds or collages allowed. Posting of original art only! Doing so will result in an automatic DQ!
    5. Higher rank picks subject in ranked matches, although the subject shouldn’t be too specific
    6. No media restrictions to illustrations for ranked matches.
    7. Media restrictions, deadlines and subject must be mutually agreed upon for streetfights
    8. Win 3 championship matches and automatically move up to the next weight class or defeat 3 higher ranks in streetfights will also move you up.
    9. Win a wild card match against higher classed opponent to move up to the next weight class.
    10. Please make your polls run for 4 days and make them public for all matches.
    11. Win/loss record serves as tie breaker in the event that more than one opponent shares the same rank
    12. You should have your stats in your signature for easy reference.
    13. Number of KO victories serves as 2nd tie breaker if record and rank is the same.
    14. A KO is a vote of 75% or more in a 1:1 match, and 65% or more in a 1:1:1
    15. PUMMEL entries cannot be used for the Grand Championship series or any other PJ draw off.
    16. You can count one on one matches against non-PUMMEL participants in your stats. But this means it counts whether you win or lose.
    17. Sequentials are allowed and encouraged. But please inform your opponent that you will be doing them in your match so they have an opportunity to match efforts. There will be warnings if you do not state you are doing Sequentials.
    18. Good natured smack talk is allowed (and encouraged), but trolling is not. Keep the focus on the art and not the artist. Abusive/profane language is not welcome. There will be warnings followed by a suspenison of the forums.
    19. Soliciting votes from 'outside' is discouraged and can result in a loss (and a suspension). Do not try to stack the vote in your favor. Your art should speak for itself.
    20. The minimum amount of time for a Streetfight challenge is one hour. PUMMEL is about quality, not speed. You should be focusing on the finished product.
    21. Your win/loss record is determine by a + or -
That is, if your record is 5W, 3L - you have a record of +2
If your record is 22W and 35L, you have a record of -13
    22. Animations can only be used in specified Street Fights. If both opponents agree, then have at it. But it can not be used in monthly matches.
    23. ALL entries that feature any nudity and/or sexual content will be marked NSFW and will be linked instead of displayed.
    24. Streetfight Deadline rules 11/06/12:
      A. A streetfight deadline shall NOT be set longer than 30 days from the date of the original challenge. 30 days is the maximum. If you need longer than that, do it outside the auspices of PUMMEL.
      B. ONE extension, if agreed upon by both parties to the streetfight, will be allowed. This extension will not be in excess of 72 hours past the original deadline. A PUMMEL moderator must receive a PM notifying them of this extension, or a message in the original challenge thread will be left advising about the new, extended, deadline.
      C. A no-show by the deadline (regular or extended) shall result in the awarding of an automatic (disqualification) victory to the competitor who has posted a sketch/drawing/illustration on or before the deadline in the original challenge thread.
      D. A no-show loss will be given to the competitor who fails to provide a sketch/drawing/illustration on or before the agreed upon deadline. 3 no-show losses in a 6 month period will result in a suspension from PUMMEL ranked and street-fight matches for a period of not less than 90 days.
    25. Rules concerning NO-SHOWS and MIA's:
A No-Show is hereafter defined as: A PUMMEL Competitor who cannot meet the deadline set for a monthly ranked match or streetfight but provides warning to his opponent(s) at any time up to the set deadline (ie: The deadline for a PUMMEL Ranked Match is the 25th of the month @ 12:00 am EST).

An MIA (Missing In Action) is hereafter defined as: A PUMMEL Competitor who cannot meet the deadline set for a monthly ranked match or streetfight, and provides NO warning to his opponent(s). When the match deadline has passed with no notice the competitor is classified as MIA.

A No-Show to a PUMMEL Ranked Match shall incur a -4 penalty in the rankings. 2 consecutive no-shows in monthly ranked matches shall result in suspension from PUMMEL for a period of 90 days. 3 non-consecutive no-shows in a 6 month period shall result in a suspension from PUMMEL ranked matches for 90 days.

An MIA in a PUMMEL Ranked Match shall be dropped to the bottom ranking of the weight division in which he/she is currently participating. Written notice (via PM) must be provided to the Weight Class Commissioner, by the MIA, of the intent to continue in Ranked Matches before the new matches are posted up on the 1st of the next month. If no written notification(PM) is received, then the MIA will be dropped from the following month's ranked matches. 2 MIAs within a 6 month period shall result in a permanent suspension from PUMMEL ranked matches.
    26. Rules concerning taking time off from PUMMEL ranked matches:

The rules for taking time off from PUMMEL ranked matches are hereby amended: A competitor who takes time off from PUMMEL will receive a -1 in the ranking for every month he/she takes off (ex:You need two months off for your wedding and honeymoon: this is -1 for each month off (-2 total) and if you left at a what would have been a ranking of #5 in the matches, you will return at #7). This is dependant upon the rank you would have been at the time you are taking off. So if you lose a match and then decide to take off a month you still incur the -2 for losing and a -1 for the month off for a total of losing 3 spots in the ranks. If you win your match and would have gone up in the ranks (+1), take one month off (-1) you will return at your same ranking.

In order to make this as equitable to the other competitors as possible (who are still competing on a ladder basis during your time off), and to avoid a 3-way match every time someone returns to the ranks: in the event of a tie the actual rankings will be determined by win/loss records, so you may start lower, or higher than you thought you would.

It is incumbent upon the PUMMELer taking time off to notify his Weight-Class Commissioner in advance of taking time off from the Monthly Ranked matches; Also to to notify the Commissioner with enough lead time to include them in the ranked matches on the month that they wish to return.

Special rule concerning Championship Matches: If a competitor leaves at rank #1 they cannot return to a championship match on the month they return, and will return as the #3 seed (again based upon win/loss records).

NOTE: This rules change should NOT be taken as an invitation to "dodge" a competitor you feel you won't do well against. If a Commissioner feels that is the case, then a further ranking-penalty may be imposed at the Commissioner's discretion.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    1. How do I participate?
There are two main ways to participate in PUMMEL.
1.1 - Monthly Ranked Matches. At the start of every month, there will be a rankings list posted by PUMMEL Commissioners. The top ranked person in each match-up will choose the topic and send it via PM to the lower ranked. There are no media restrictions in the monthly match-ups. Be sure to post your final piece in the monthly thread before the deadline. Once both pieces are posted, a poll can be created. Specifically:
    A Win moves up 1
    Loss moves down 2
    No-show moves down 4
2 No-shows in a row and you get dropped to the bottom of the class

1.2 Street Fight. A SF can be posted as a general (or person specific) challenge in the PUMMEL section. Timeline, topic, and medium are all up to the participants. Pieces must be posted in the thread prior to the deadline, and then a poll must be created.
For larger Street Fights, the rules regarding tournaments and BRAWLS will take effect.

    2. How do I advance?
You have to win. You can win by either getting more votes than your opponent, or by them not showing up (an increase of 1 in rank). Also of note, a NO-SHOW in a monthly match up will bump you 4 spots in the rankings where as a regular loss is only 2. Repeated NO-SHOWS will get you suspended from the competition. See the note below for more specifics about NO-SHOWS penalties.

    3. How do I move up a weight class?
This can be done two ways...
    A) Win a Championship bout in your division 3 times.
    or
    B) Win 3 Street Fights against opponents in a higher weight class.
*all of these 'wins' must be actual wins, not NO-SHOWS.

    4. What if I can't finish my piece?
If you already have some of it done, post it up. It may not be pretty, but at least everyone will know that you tried. As well, give your opponent (and the commissioner) as much notice as possible if you expect to NO-SHOW. Last minute excuses are frowned upon, and repeated NO-SHOWS will get you suspended from the competition. More then 4 NO-SHOWS in a 6 month period and you will be banned for a period of 1 year. Back to back NO SHOWS may result in you being placed on a 'probation' (please talk to your commissioner about any difficulties), and placed at the bottom of the class. Be sure to check in asap and let ppl know your intentions.

    5. Who should I contact if I have any questions?
You can post the questions here, or contact the following commissioners:
    HeavyWeights - scmarooney
    LightHeavyWeight- Juggertha
    Middleweights - JC Immortal
    Lightweights- blamito

    6. What if my opponent doesn't show?
If it's a Street Fight or Monthly, if they fail to meet the deadline it it an automatic win for you. However, street fights, because of their nature, and organized by you. Extensions are possible if both parties agree.
In a regular monthly match, if your opponent hasn't replied to the challenge, you should contact the class commissioner, and possibly be moved into a 3-way match above you.

    7. How many fights can I get into at one time?
Generally, you'll have your obligatory one Regular Weight Class bout per month, plus, you can enter into as many Street Fights as you can muster in the mean time. Basically though, be sure that you're finishing what you start, and don't bloody NO SHOW.

    8. I want to get back INTO pummel, what do I have to do?
Well, it depends on how long you've been gone for. If you've only been gone for a month or two, you will rejoin at a rank that would reflect consecutive NO SHOWS. But if it's around the 3-4 month mark, you can just rejoin the class at the bottom. If it's any longer than that, you should consider a new weigh-in. Contact a commissioner to let them know you wish to return.

    9. What if i cant sign in right before the deadline for some reason?
This seems to be a reoccurring theme and to solve this problem and to make sure you make it in before the deadline we have an email address simply made just for PUMMEL entries so you can send it there if you wish to make sure your entry has made it on time.

I created this to gather all the rules that have been made official into one area. The other thread concentrated mostly on the set up of the tournament and a lot of the main aspects of what this is got buried or looked over. Hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion. Anything gets added, I'll edit the initial post in this thread.

    Any questions, ask them here.

    Thought I would help out.

You simply post ONE pic up in the Proving Ground with a poll with three options:
    1) Lightweight
    2) Middlweight
    3) Heavyweight
Then we vote as to where we think you fall. Here is an example ... http://www.penciljack.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93954

You will be ranked at the bottom of the weight class which get the most number of votes'; behind those who have been through the tournament. However, if you participate in Street Fights ... see Dave's rules above ... your record will further influence your standing ... at least until after the tournament is done. Then it is the Monthly rankign matches ... and street fights that decide where you will be.

    Hope this helps

Yeah, rogue is just a term for those who are participating in streetfights and haven't done what Spidey976 explained. Once you do that, you will be placed in a weight class as an official participant, and you'll have one required ranked match per month, which the ranking spreadsheet would decide.

Forum is giving me an error message when I try to edit the original post... but heres a standard operating procedure for when the ranked matches begin in July...

Creating voting threads for ranked matches:

For ranked matches, please use this subject line format in the title of your thread:

PRM (weightclass) (#rank) name vs. (#rank) name
Set polls to run for 4 days and make them public.

Even though the final deadline is the 22nd of each month, you can post the polls before then if both parties are finished. This would actually help considering the volume of matches that will be taking place.
