I'm going to New York City, any ideas for awesomeness

I was wondering if anyone knew of any really cool comic book nerd oriented (or just general geekdom oriented) sites or places that are really cool i could check out?

Or just awesome things all together.

Midtown Comics is pretty great. Or head to Brooklyn and try to spot the big murals Jim Mahfood did around there. That's about all the nerd oriented stuff I can think of, though.

General New York advice: avoid Times Square at all costs. Times Square is not New York City. It is a mall with skyscrapers. Get out and explore.

I'm not sure if it's "comic-booky", but I've always gotten lots of inspiration and done some amazing sketches in the Arms and Armory section of the Met(ropoliton Museum of Art).

However, if you have never seen Times Square you might just wanna take a stroll. Midtown comics, go catch a show, do tourism stuff. Just have a good time. Oh and stay out of dark alleys.

The Met is awesome, but not really comic-booky. There's tons of amazing artwork, but it goes beyond that by having the great Arms and Armory section, and an equally great ancient Egypt section.

I've heard Midtown Comics is sweet, although I've never been. I'd recommend Jim Hanley's Universe as a pretty great comic shop, plus if I remember correctly, it's right across from the Empire State building, so it's easy to do both if you're interested.

ESPNzone in Times Square is pretty cool if you're a sports geek, but it is in Times Square, so it's a trade off. Plus it's always packed.

yea i've been to times square(sville) but i'm gonna have to drag through there again this time since my lady has never been to NY.

i'm definitely going to the Met, and either the Whitney or The Guggenheim. Is midtown the comic shop near times square? i'm pretty sure i've been there (and am planning to go again), but that was ages ago, i havn't been to NY in years and never without my folks.

i'm up for anything thats cool, geeky or not.

anyone know of any good record stores (as in vinyl)?

I like Jim Hanley's better than midtown comics. Midtown is pretty cool though.
