there's a saying if ain't broke don't fix it, i understand marvel is doing this to advance the ultimate marvel universe but not like this nearly everyone is dead (which makes me believe the rumor that marvel is doing this to make sure that the 616 universe will never be outdone or replaced ) i would like to know what the hell was going through marvel's head when they concocted this story. i loved the ultimate marvel universe as it was but now... I'm not so sure what to think of it after this

It's my opinion that the Ultimate universe should have never existed in the first place. I believe in that saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Unfortunately, in Marvel's case, 616 was seriously broke and needed some serious fixing. Still does. All they did was create a universe to draw the attention away. But yeah, when Ultimate Avengers are better than anything seen in the 616 version of the title in more than two decades, then it may be time for Marvel to reassess what the point of the Ultimate universe was in the first place.

I always thought the Ultimate universe was a dumb idea, despite loving The Ultimates and Brian K Vaughn's stint on Ultimate X-Men.

Ultimates was good but I'd hate that to be the 616 version. Every single character is an asshole. Interesting assholes that amke you read about them but assholes none the less.

I've thought that about every Millar comic I've read...in everything (except for red son, oddly) his characters come off as mean spirited. Spider-Man seemed like a bit of a dick in that marvel knights run, and almost everybody in civil war was cast as unlikable. Still an excellent writer, and that cynicism he seems to have can come off as a strength, depending on what he's writing.

I was never really a big reader of the Avengers. I don't know why but it's just a title that never held my interest. I bought the Ultimates for Hitch art and ended up loving it. I prefer the Ultimate versions of the characters. They are more flawed and interesting to read. More human.

What they've done to the Ultimates since then, it might as well just be a regular Avengers title.
