    Captain Cochrane

It's been a long time since I last posted here (forgive me...I was just swamped, that's all! ), I just recently popped back in... Anyway, I've been working on a fan comic (Not intentionally, it just happened to be the project on the table when I said "that's it! I'm not going to start a comic, draw 20 pages and quit anymore!") Anyway, I'm using it as a test bed to expand my skills, Recently I purchased a Slate PC and ArtRage 2, This piece was completely done in-computer, using a neat pencil brush for Photoshop and then ArtRage 2 for the coloring and background...

Anyway, if you can forgive the obvious geekiness of the post, I would appreciate comments.

    Thank you,

I think its a pretty decent image, its quite serene but the left eye seems too far to the left of the face, it seems as though her face is pretty much straight on to the viewer so the face should just be a bit more symmetrical and proportioned,
There needs to be more turn to the hips in her pose from the way she's positioned, and the hands could do with more time spent on them but with some changes it could be a really beautiful picture.

Her torso seems so very long. The way her legs appear from under the shirt gives the feeling that is her groin area right there. But I think her hips need to be moved up.

Decent little female proportions tutorial here... Farlow Studios

    Thanks guys!

There's something else wrong with it... The proportions should be spot-on, I used a photo reference from a live model (I'm a manga artist and didn't want to distort the eye-size, breast size or hips-waist size)... After the replies here, I went on ahead and checked them using Good Ol' DaVinci's method of measurements, and they are all okay...

So that leads me to suspect the shading? (I only took the outline from the model, the clothing, lighting and shading I did myself) The shading on the legs is definitely suspect... the model wasn't wearing a dress, so I fudged it to match the uniforms of Star Trek... The model being Asian, though, didn't have the chest of some of the women in Star Trek... I had to downsize the chest to match, I think that might have pulled away from the general shape of the uniform ( That was intentional; I'm a small-breast proponent ).

Yep, my first foray into "realistic" isn't going so well, is it? Maybe I should stick to Manga...
