How to draw "onion" Dome's ?

Does anyone know good way to draw these Russian/Turkish onion style domes like the ones seen on Saint Petersburg church?

So far all I've come up with is using a compass to make a circle, then plot divide it diagonaly, then use french curve from the plot marks as seen below. I still doesnt look squat enough to me though. Advice?

You're right in that it isn't nearly squat enough.

These things are all over the University of Tampa, they're kinda iconic, so a search for UT images ought to give you some solid refs.

I'd say you need a flattened ellipse rather than a circle. The recurve should be more conical, I think.
