Looking good man. I think the 2nd one, her face doesn't seem to align with her head positioning. Still a good likeness.
I usually don't use reference. I just memorize features of people who I think look beautiful, ugly or just plain cool. Anyway I recently decided to just start doing actual studies of people instead of just trying to memorize everything. Doing these as timed excerises to help increase my speed etc. Anyway let me know what you think.

Well when I saw the first one, despite having good proportions and all...I didn't immediatly recognize it as being her, where as the second image despite the face being off...I saw the likeness instantly.
Jason,
The first image looked pretty accurate to me, but with likenesses, it's the smallest, most subtle aspects that can combine to throw things off. Here's a couple observations that may be of some help. I think Jolie's nostrils might extend back a tad further, and her jawline might not be quite so 90 degree square--maybe it's a little more of a gradual slanted angle. Her eyebrows might be just a hair more pointed at the arch also. I'm basing all this on this photo:
The tilt of her head is slightly different though.

Both of them kinda remind me of Natalie Portman.
One technique to try: limit yourself to one or 2 lines for each part of the face (eye, nose, shape of head, etc.) and make sure it looks right before going on from there. It takes only a few lines to capture a likeness.
