I haven't tried painter so I wouldn't know which is harder, but if it makes comparisons any easier, I've never painted traditionally and it blows my mind when I see somebody paint amazing concepts on canvas. It looks like it takes a GREAT deal of planning and skill, no doubt.

I do agree on deviantart antics though, feels like its a gigantic swarm of anime/pretty-boy fanatics swarming all over the place. Not that that is a bad thing, but it does leave a bad influence on me in that it could easily affect my time and I may end up drawing some 'girl-on-girl' or 'pretty-boy' work just to get some attention. I don't got the time for that and really don't want that 'pretty boy' style to influence what little I have. :s
Hhh....one of the problems is that there isn't such thing as "good" art (it's subjective)...people are different and they consider different things as "good". However, the skills that one must have to produce a certain piece of art are objective.

When you have the basic skills and knowledge, I don't think anybody would care if you'd use all the possible tools in PS.
(for instance the dodge thingy, that everyone says you should avoid...it's silly, even people like Marco use it...the trick is to use it correctly!)

BUT, if one lacks the skills and instead of improving them he/she starts "masking" his mistakes by "pretty brushes"/"pretty layers"/drawing the same thing over and over again, and etc...I would care about that.
Instead of praising it as being "AWESOME", I would point out their mistakes.

The problem begins, when those artists are constantly reassured and reinforced by their friends who make absolutely the same mistakes, and they simply stop listening to anyone who does not praise them for being great and awesome.
I've seen this on Conceptart, on DA and on other sites...when it starts, it spreads like wildfire and clones more and more of those artists.

Frankly i stopped caring about DA and CA a long time ago, simply because they are over populated, there are some great artist on these sites who produce extraordinary art, but often they simply get lost in the crowd.
To me those sites are like Facebook, people browse and "like" whatever is "shiny"/"nude"/"funny"/etc...they rarely stop to give a useful crit...and they imo often do not care about the art.

    PS.
I would definitely suggest you to try Painter, the fun thing is that you can combine between the effects in PS and the "paintry" feel in Painter - to get the best possible result.

I really like your work and also the approach you just described above. And I'm quite happy that you went for digital painting, it really suits you and you are producing some amazingly nice art.

I especially love the scooter chick. Keep on posting!
Thank you very much, at first i actually thought that it's impossible to have a double career - doing art and "real" stuff at the same time. But, people like you, and others that i met and talked to over the years, really inspired me to try and reach all my goals in life. They showed me that it is possible.

    Thank you
