I'm really glad that you are that active these days, Alex, lots of stuff for us to drool over. I pretty much like the chacrater drawings.

What made you change the stance of the firing walker in the "walker duel page" from the initial sketch to the final piece (and also the angle)? I would have voted for the original pose there, it just feels there is more punch in it.

There were a few reasons for the changes. First was that I wanted to better establish a foreground/middleground/background relationship and an intervening rock outcropping seemed appropriate. Second, I thought it was silly for a lighter mech to be going toe to toe with two heavier mechs at such close range. I felt it was more "realistic" (walking tanks are silly - I love them, but they are NOT realistic) for the lighter mech to have been keeping distance from the enemy mech on the right, but was then ambushed by the other enemy coming from behind the rock outcropping. Poor guy never stood a chance. I also wanted to have the closer enemy mech in a different position from the distant one. I actually chastised myself for doing that, as it was more work, but I thought it would be more visually interesting to not repeat the same pose (or, at least, similar angle), so the sides of the legs were to be shown for variation only. Finally, that corner was pretty barren with nothing there and the eye kind of aimed at it. Notice that the rock outcropping leads the eye back to the mechs. It helped create a circular eye-flow.

    Hope that helps!
    Cheers, Alex

It sure seems like a lot of thought, but really, it took a few seconds to make the change. Then it took a bunch of extra time to get the side details right on the legs. But the thought process, was super quick. I find that as I do more and more art, I'm just doing the work and not having to really think about what I'm doing anymore. Only when I stop to explain something for someone do I even realize some of the nuance I'm doing out of instinct (I know it's not instinct - more like a heavily trained muscle memory).

    Anyway, you're welcome.

Love the textures you achieve with the inks on the Black Chapter cover.

Steve: Thanks man! It's funny - that last image is not the one I thought it was. I have to find the otehr one - it's been updated.

Simo: Thank you! Ive been swamped with stuff I'm not allowed to show yet, but I have some new things I've been working on recently that I may be able to post, so stay tuned for a new update.

Repo: Long time, no see! I've been trying to stay very aware of textures to help separate the layers. I hope I continue to do well through the completion. There's a LOT of wood in this image and I don't want to overdo it.
    Cheers, Alex
