    Photoshop

    Hey all,
Was just wondering what the best version of photoshop is?
Ive tinkered with it in the past but always just go back to pencil and ink and rarely colour anything.
So if ya got any good advice send it my way thanx.

Any version from 7.0 on up is good. CS2 is 9.0 (if you watch the dialog that comes up as the program loads, it actually refers to itself as PS 9.0), and that's the version I use at home. I generally use CS3 at work, and while it has some advantages it's also kinda quirky and some of my partners don't care for it.

I think CS2 probably combines the best advantages of the new system (it does have a superior transform tool to 7.0, and I use that tool a LOT). It really depends on what you want to do with it... for painting, 7.0 is perfectly fine and I know several excellent digital painters who haven't bothered to upgrade past that point at all.

I agree with Ben, but I'd even say that an older Photoshop such as 6.0 is pretty sweet to have. PS 6.0 doesn't have all the whistles and bells of 7.0 and beyond, but I believe that it does have the feature that allows you to save artwork to the the web, and you can do many of the important functions of later versions. I used to have 6.0, and I did many pro projects using that version of PS. I now own the latest two versions of PS for my Dell and for my new IMAC (which is equipped with the newest version). Adobe makes great products, so it's hard to go wrong with even their older stuff. Older Photoshops like 6.0 may not be "state of the art", but that doesn't mean that they aren't extremely useful, or that they can't be used to create professional level, publishable and printable artworks.
