i like the dodge and burn styles. We're talking about fictional superheroes and even tho we want some die hard real fiction some things are just allowed to be pretty, and i think they're pretty.Originally Posted by Archerion

In fact, the basic tools are the best. You can use the Brush tool to get all you need done, and in fact I think that would be a good idea.
Work on the basics before you add the extras!
You wouldn't need the color hold on her stomach if you had focused more on giving it dimension with your painting. You've got the "light source" idea down, but your shading is too high-contrast. Her torso goes from pink to almost pure white in the middle. Rather than artistic, it just look sloppy!
Here's my quick suggestion for her face:
I'd really like to see you tighten up your shading. How long did you spend on this picture before you posted it?

First of all, like I mentioned in the email. You need to fill the lineart layer with pure black, you can see the colors underneath showing through. I really should've added an extra step to do it in the action...
Also, I hate to sound like an ass, but I've decided I'm not going to comment on any more of your stuff until you post something that at least looks properly flatted, and is inside the lines. I'm happy to give some advice on lighting and form, but I can't and won't for someone who can't even seem to get the concept of coloring inside the lines.

well i've been working with it all day. Kay, color me dumb, how would i add more dimensions with just shading. many of the tuts i find go straight to highlights soooo, i kinda have light source down from practice but shading still mystifies me. I kiiinda know cell-shading, so could you help with that maybe?

What wasn't inside the lines? Are you kidding me? In this picture alone there's tons of places where you went outside the lines, or missed a big spot inside. Hell, you even forgot to color GA's quiver!
No offense, but you really need to take another look at that flatting tutorial. Really read it. I guarantee you your colors will look 10x better if you just keep the colors nice and tight INSIDE THE !@#$% LINES!
