Pencilling Iron Man Mark III -DO Entry

So here is my entry for the IronMan DO. I am calling it done for now ... though I am going to be adding a Background later. My son begged me to ... but I think he wants like Avengers Tower or the Hellicarrier ... and I didn't have time for that before the DO ended ... and I felt like posting this up for some C&C.

Just to be all above board and stuff ... I used a pic of Iron Man done by Jim Calafiore that I found in my Wizard How to Draw Getting Started book (The shot was originally in Iron Man #325) as the first reference for the rough of this. I made quite a few changes to suit my purpose not to mention hours of referencing about 10 or 12 different shots of the Mark III armor that I found online. Last but not least I really tried to look at how Bob Layton handles some of his metal textures. The man is an Iron Man master.

Hey spidey, nice work. It's got a nice energy to it and you did a fantastic job on the metallic texturing ! There are a few anatomical errors though, for example his right bicep looks a bit on the small side and both his hands look a bit strange ( not too sure why but I wish I was because I hate giving crits and not being able to offer helpful solutions ) but yeah, his hands both look a bit strange.

Other than that the only thing I could really suggest is playing with the line weights a bit more. Overall it's a great entry and it's about the most accurate M3 movie version I've seen so far. Great work, keep it up !

Thanks Tropic ... now that you mention it I can see the bicep and the hand issues ... I will have to give them a look when I finalize this piece with a background. As for the textures thanks for the compliment ... I really had to think about it since I had a double light source. As for the M3 ... well I spend hours trying to get it right ... so thanks for the compliment.

The head needs to be bigger. Like a lot bigger.

LOL ... yeah ... I heard that in my blog ... though there was some argument about whether it should be a lot bigger or just a little with the foreshortening. I may make a change with it when I ink it ... though the helmet fought me like crazy ... lol.

Ironman can be a pain in the rear to draw sometimes. because of the armor anatomy does not flow like with a person.

I don't think the head needs to be THAT much bigger....maybe just a bit but not by much. he's about 9 to 10 heads high right now..just a little resize to make him 7 to 8

Personally though I always found Iron Man to look a bit cooler with a smaller head in relation to body size...gives him a more robotic feel. But that's just my opinion.
