The Dead Game

Here's a link the the facebook group you can join, but I copy pasted what it's about.

The Dead Game

== The Dead Game: ==

The Dead Game is a non-violent social interaction game developed by college students to relieve boredom and frustration, give people a common subject to talk about, and allows people from all walks of life to interact on a level playing field.

== THE HISTORY: ==

The Dead Game was a creation of boredom and frustration developed by four students during the summer of 2006 at the [Ringling College of Art and Design]. Nick Hamer, Greg Hettinger, Jorge Garcia, and Kris Vale were employed by the Institutional Technology Department as summer student workers. Three of these students labored in the summer heat of Sarasota moving, fixing, and cleaning every computer on campus. There were many things that lead to the building frustration with their jobs. None so much as the most evil creation ever invented by an IT department...LIGHTGUARD! (not anywhere near as cool as it sounds!) The three students labored tirelessly under the omnipresent watchful eye of the head student worker...Kris Vale...a man they dubbed "The Dark Shroud". He was smarter, more responsible, and always the one that grudgingly got them back on task after one of many goof off sessions. The others loved him, feared, him, made fun of him, but ultimately respected him.

It was during one of the many mock battles that two of the students, Nick and Greg ,got into a slap fight and imagined they had weapons in their hands striking each other trying to cause what would be a mortal wound. The weapons were soon abandoned for martial arts moves based off of the infamous death touch seen in the Batman the Animated Series. These battles continued in mock fight fashion through out each computer lab they worked in. Each one always sneaking up on the other trying to get in a mortal strike! It was during these sparring matches that the original rule was laid out due to the arguing over what would have caused a fatal strike and what could they survive. So the original fatal strike was deemed to only occur when the killer struck the other person on the neck and saying in their best assassins voice "dead!"

The first few days were a bloody mess with the two of them killing each other over and over again. The killing at first was fun and satisfied their boredom, but it was missing something. There was no anticipation of the hunt. They could kill each other at whim for hours on end and after awhile it was like two immortal titans locked in eternal combat with no winner in sight. It wasn't until the third student worker showed up for work a couple of weeks into the summer and was introduced to the game that they discovered they could expand their game to waste the time of others as well. Jorge Garcia was struck down on a balmy Monday morning fresh out of new employee orientation. He never saw it coming. Soon after his first death he wanted to know what just happened and what the rules were to this game. The two titans suddenly realized that rules would be a good thing to give some structure to the game. So that day Greg, Nick, and Jorge developed what would become the core rules of "The Dead Game".

It was the Dark Shroud however that contributed the most important and meaningful rule to the game. After being struck a few times a day by his underlings he thought that there was no purpose to the game. In his wisdom, or annoyance at the slacking student workers, he made the decree that once you had been killed you were dead for the entire rest of the day. Suddenly the game had much higher stakes. Now the initial kill of the day really meant something. Once you were killed you were out of the game! Although the Dark Shroud tended to avoid the workers' game he occasionally took all three of them by surprise and would strike them down without notice in mid-sentence. There was a reason he was the one in charge.

The Dark Shroud's rule of course led the three workers to make up another rule to find a way back into the game after having been killed. It was a long summer and they needed ways to take out their frustration. So the infamous "Zombie Strike" was invented. After much debate over it's acceptance it was eventually adopted as a core rule to the game. Soon after came the "Noob Block" which led to the "Ultimate Shame."

The rules have since been clarified even more. Although when debate arises from new situations as new players join in the person or persons responsible for bringing the Dead Game to it's location are responsible for being the jurors and rule makers. It will always have the core rules, but since it's inception it has adapted to new environments and is constantly evolving.

After a few more days of this brilliant new game the three IT gladiators found themselves in an elevator all together with the Dark Shroud in their mists. There was usual laughter and conversation getting onto the elevator, but as if all at once they fell silent as the steel doors to humanity closed behind them trapping them inside with no where to run. They each realized the opportunity they had in such close quarters. What happened next is almost too graphic to describe. The brilliant attack moves, the strategy, the luck, and and mastery of the game finally had reached it's full potential. The sheer carnage that took place in that elevator on that fateful day was the stuff of legends. Never before or since has such a dramatic battle been fought in a 5ftx5ft space between the first and second floor of a building during work hours. It was as if the angels and demons of heaven and hell took pause from their eternal conflict to watch the epic masterpiece unfolding before them. But in the end... there can be only one.

== The CORE RULES: ==

1. The fatal strike is only made when the assassin touches the skin of the victim’s neck using just the assassin's hand and audibly saying the word "dead!" The victim is then considered dead and out of the game for the rest of the day only coming back to life at 12:01am the following day.
a) No extensions of the hand such as objects or weapons count as a kill. It must be the hand making contact with the neck. Gloves or naturally covering objects on the hands such as rings are considered part of the hand and count as a valid dead strike.
b) The neck is defined as the area all around the neck below the jaw line and above the collar bones.
c) You may protect your neck with articles of clothing such as turtle necks, hoods, and even the brim of hats. Only skin contact is considered a kill.
2. Once dead, the victim then turns into a "zombie" and has 5 seconds to retaliate and take the assassin down with them. To do this the "zombie" must strike back in the same way at the assassin's neck and say "zombie strike!" while making contact with the skin of the neck.
a) A zombie may strike anyone that is still alive within their 5 seconds causing them to become a zombie too. It doesn’t have to be the assassin that killed him or her. That victim then has 5 seconds to zombie strike someone as well and so on with their victims.
3. At any point players have the ability to block the intended attackers strike by blocking the forthcoming strike in a wax on wax off fashion and saying "noob block!"
a.) If a potential victim noob blocks a potential assassin’s strike, the assassin is then considered dead and does not have a chance to "zombie strike."
b.) If a successful assassin noob blocks a zombie strike from a recently killed zombie the zombie suffers the "Ultimate Shame".
4. If you strike someone who is already dead then you are infected with the Zombie Juice and you are instantly dead and out of the game the rest of the day.

Rules for the Days of the Week:
On two days of the week the normal rules are altered slightly.

Sunday: Core Rules Apply

Monday: Core Rules Apply

Tuesday: Core Rules Apply

Wednesday: Super Strike Wednesdays

Thursday: Core Rules Apply

Friday: Regeneration Fridays

Saturday: Core Rules Apply

----

Super Strike Wednesdays:

1. On Wednesdays instead of saying “dead” during a killing strike the assassin must come up with some creative and sometimes outrageous way of saying a phrase that means the victim is being killed. Some examples of this have included:

“Super Killer Lighting Hammer of Death!”

“Crackeling Dark Chocalate Strike of Doom!”

“Silent Ninja blades of Revenge Death!”

a) The phrase has to end in a form of termination such as death, dead, doom, extermination, assassination, etc.
b) If the assassin does not use an awesome phrase and just says “dead” the kill does not count.
c) All other Core Rules apply except for the phrasing of “dead”.

Regeneration Fridays:
1. On Fridays after a victim is killed they come back to life after 5 minutes.
a) All other core rules apply except for being out of the game the rest of the day.

== Contributed Alternative Rules: ==

These Rules have since been developed and added as additional rules that you may choose to use or ignore. It is common for just a few players with in a group to adapt to the new rules and it is up to them to agree upon what rules are followed by themselves and with in their group.

1. Zombie Strikes can also be accomplished by striking the heart/belly area as if you were ripping it out.
2. Assassins can be conscripted from random bystanders that don't normally play in order to get back at an unsuspecting victim.
3. You can kill people through instant messenger while school is not in session by typing "Dead!" they have 10 seconds to type back "Noob Block!" or they can Zombie Strike with in 30 seconds of receiving the text.

== Public Use ==

The Dead Game is an open game that anyone is allowed to play.You may change the rules in your social group to conform with new ideas that you may come up with to better the game.

Remember that it is a NON-VIOLENT game. Although terms like "dead", "kill", "victim", "strike", and "assassinate" are used when talking about the game, it is just a mocking form of play fighting. Contact to each others necks should be gentle enough not to hurt in anyway.

Some things to keep in mind:
1. The fun comes from the simplicity of the game and the anticipation of the hunt. When making up rules it is better to keep it simple so that anyone can play.
2. There is a lot of satisfaction from striking victims as stealthily as possible while they are in situations where they can not react as they normally would to try to counter. Such as while they are talking on the phone, sitting at a computer, or having a conversation with someone as you walk by.
3. The game is meant to be played casually, as if it's something you remember after a few days and you might get a kill that day. Once a lot of people are playing however the threat is always there that someone remembered that they can kill you or they want revenge for you killing them the day before.

The Dead Game is viral so it can't be stopped as long as it's players are spreading the infectious fun.
College campuses around the USA are starting to pick up on this new game and as it is spreading very quickly.

aha, this actually sounds pretty fun, This is definitely something that would have been more fun in high school then university but I think I'm gonna start killing my mates in this way for a laugh.
It sounds like Tag (or TIG as we call it for some reason), except it goes on throughout the day,
and theres tag backs and things like that,
its a new take on tag,
and it sounds more exciting because it lasts longer,
you couldn't see a game of tag lasting months but I could see this being fun around my student halls sneaking into mates rooms to karate chop them in the neck.

Honestly our game at Ringling has been going on for over two years now and it just keeps getting bigger. We teach it to all the incoming freshmen during orientation. The funny thing is when someone randomly kills you and you are so stunned that this total stranger knows about the dead game!

Sometimes we have small alliances formed that agree not to kill each other, but after awhile someone breaks ranks and kills everyone in their group totally by surprise.

At first people will be confused when you kill them, but once you teach them and then they get their first kill it's like vampire blood lust and they can't stop playing.

I read about this game and linked my friend to it this morning and we talked about it for a bit. Later on I had to rush round to his and told him I was coming and he ran out of his bathroom came up behind me and struck me and told me I was dead.
He then gloated for like an hour about it.

it was hideous.

He will get pay back.

You have no idea how satisfying your first kill is (naked or otherwise) until you see the look on your victims face when they realize they are out of the game for the whole rest of the day. and after you've been killed you don't stop thinking about you revenge plan until the moment you strike back the next day.

You can see how it promotes healthy relationships...killing, revenge, and devious plots. It's got all the building blocks for a great time.
