Thread: i dislike magna/anime

    i dislike magna/anime

now, those of you that are really into it, thats fine, im not speaking against you. dont take this personaly

now, as i go about my day i see many people drawing, as is expected in high school science/math classes, but it is becoming more and more anime/magna type crap. even searching through devient and pj im seeing it. now as said before, dont take this personaly, but i cant stand this crap. it doenst really take that much to draw it, therefore (i believe) takes less skill. i find it to be extreemely un realistic in that the body forms are extremely oversimplified, to the point where only the addition of eyes and hair is what makes the head the head.

    example:

ok now honestly, who has ever seen anyone whoes head, eyes, mouth, ect. is shaped like that? to me this just appears as a lack of willingness to studdy anatomy.

and whats with this gay stuff. half the time i see this crap its two dudes about to get it on. i mean wtf japan? also why do 80% of the dudes look like girls? and all the people with tails and stuff? and extra ears???

though this crap does make me like my art class more, simply because my art teacher ( a big comic buff/nerd) throws all this out as crap, and doesnt let any students do it as part of the work.

i mean come on... any one else feel the same whay
again, dont take it personaly, just my opinion.

ps: i dont know where to put this, if its not in the right spot im sorry

I understand where your coming from but you are seriously gonna offend people. Saying you don't like it is fine, But calling it "crap" is harsh.

Granted I myself don't necessarily enjoy manga or anime as much as others, but it has it's merits. Watch Akira, FLCL, Tekkonkinkreet, or Paprika. Read Akira, Lone Wolf and Cub, or Monster. Hell, read anything by Katsuhiro Otomo. There's a skill there that transcends the stylistic qualities.

I think looking past the surface details is key. A lot (from my experience anyways) of the people who draw in a "manga-style" look primarily at the surface and ignore the foundation.

Here are some other great examples. I'm sure this epic slacker will be doomed to live out his days as an outcast from REAL art. If only he had taken the time to study!

They do it on purpose to amplify emotions and expressions. Their style is cute, bright and loud. Has nothing to do with lack of understanding anatomy, I can tell you right now theyre better than us in skill and creativity wise.

well the people you (the original poster) see drawing in that style are pretty young, so they don't have as diverse amount of source material to pull from. But at least they're drawing something...it may not be up to your standards for good art, but at least it's an effort. I'd say don't worry about it and work on your own stuff.

Yeah, maybe you shouldn't assume that the abilities of working professionals of an entire art form are only as good as that of the kids in your math class, and all the other 16 year olds on DA.
