In 1999, Gilliam attempted to film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, budgeted at US$32.1 million, among the highest-budgeted films to use only European financing; but in the first week of shooting, the actor playing Don Quixote (Jean Rochefort) suffered a herniated disc, and a flood severely damaged the set. The film was canceled, resulting in an insurance claim worth US$15 million. (Gilliam's reputation in this regard has been sufficient for the satirical newspaper The Onion to run a news article entitled "Terry Gilliam Barbecue Plagued By Production Delays".) Although the film was canceled, the story behind the whole production was filmed by a second crew hired by Gilliam to document the process. (This was as sort of an insurance for Gilliam, learned from previously canceled productions.) This production story was made into the documentary Lost in La Mancha.
Off topic, but since it was brought up..the documentary for the The Man Who Killed Don Quixote called Lost in La Mancha narrated by Jeff Bridges was very good.

Gilliam should just do documentarys for all his failed projects.

It's completely bizarre. I had a relapse of that Brandon Lee moment when I learned he up and died. Different causes but just the words sounds all wrong, him being dead.

Its all the more shocking when the celebrity in question has not really been connected with anything too irregular in their past.

If someone like Britney Spears or Amy Winehouse was found dead - it would still be a massive new story - but it wouldn't carry the same kind of 'weird stillness' that Ledger's death has evoked.

One note actor?! I don't think I've ever heard a more inaccurate description.. from the gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain, to the desperate Australian junkie in Candy, to the sleazy California beach bum in Lords of Dogtown I have rarely seen an actor display as much range and capture their roles so perfectly

    RIP

this came as a shock to my wife and i, and i agree with with beastie, he hadn't shown anything that would've led anyone to believe this was inevitable.

my wife's been a fan of ledger for a while, and actually took our son's middle name from the character gabriel that he played in the patriot.

Sorry everyone shouldn't have posted that here, and I think it's legit because that chruch has made the news before (aids protests etc) and they did it again last night. I saw a quick story about it last night on MSNBC (TV to the Net) then found what I originally posted on their website this morning.

I think you should edit this out of your post Manji. It's just that nothing good will come out of it. And it's clearly religion so forbidden around here. I obviously agree with you that it is a shame though.

i'm no great defender of religion or it's whack jobs but i really have to doubt the authenticity of that flier. most fundies don't promote usage of foul language like the word "fags" (they'd be much more likely to simply say "homosexuals" if anything) & this seems awfully vulgar for a church promotional leaflet

did you actually obtain this from the church in question or is this just something you found floating around the net

EDIT: ah, I see the flier is real but this isn't a real church as much as "a hate group masquerading as a Christian church" that expresses "condemnation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people (LGBT), Roman Catholics, Muslims and Jews, as well as populations it believes are supporting the forementioned groups, including Swedes, Canadians, Irish, British, and Americans. While its members identify themselves as Baptists, the church is an independent church not affiliated with any known Baptist conventions or associations, nor does any Baptist institution recognize the church as a Bible-believing fellowship."
