    My first sketch... ever

Well OK not EVER.. but the first one I've ever wanted to post and C&C from you fine folks.

I'm a writer who's trying to get better at drawing some characters.

Anywho let me know whatchoo think:

Not bad for a first sketch! Chuck Jones once said every artist has 10,000 bad drawings inside him/her, and they just need to get those out before they can become great.

    Just 9,999 more to go!

Well the good thing about this is that you have got the expression accross. even if it is really cartooney. But, even for a cartoon - the anatomy is way wrong. In the profile sketch his arm should bend at a wider angle and you should be able to se the edge of his wrist below the extended arm. Use a photo reference and copy it. That will improve this 200%

Funny, as a writer we're told the same thing about stories.

However I've been drawing since I was like 15, and only writing for 5 so I'm inclined to think that some people are blessed with different talents.

Good luck with your drawing. I am starting out myself.
It looks like you drew the hand on our left with the palm facing up. Did you intend that? Normally the palm would be facing down when your arms are crossed like that. I love his expression.
