I think the reason a lot of places, even those with scanners, won't scan comics is that the UPC information has to be entered at some stage into their point-of-sale systems. They can do it with TPBs, books, toys, DVDs, etc. because that information is made available well in advance by the distributors when the orders are placed. With floppies, there's just too much product coming out weekly to do so. It'd take up a disproportionately large amount of time compared to the convenience of scanning, time that could be better spent on other facets of running a store (like ridiculing Rob Liefeld).

No, seriously, the jealousy part (like Dude said, can't remember sorry Liefeld-induced amnesia) is spot-on, because by rights he SHOULDN'T be this loaded with cash and sales records.

Out of respect for these guys I will not state names, but I was involved in a casual conversation with a few Marvel pros last August in Toronto and Liefeld's name was mentioned... The gist of the comments that followed up were along the lines of "cool dude, great to hang out with and knows how to make a point, but skill-wise, not worth the bristol he works with".

I know, a lot of people can make claims like that (I heard/I overheard...), but those guys who I was talking with I respect too much to drop their names casually on an online board.

Anyway... It's amazing how much tracing can ruin someone's career and/or artistic appeal in this business. The siren call of the dark side of pencilling, I guess. Quicker, easier, more seductive.

It is a catch 22. I find that I usually leave well enough alone until people actually say that they don't understand why people don't like Liefeld. At that point, I feel compelled to explain why.
