    Loston,

Thanks for your previous answer and examples you provided! Appreciate it!

Here's a quick question that (I hope) doesn't seem too dumb. My drafting table recently had an "issue" with the metal ratcheting device that holds it up, and it was "slipping", I was wondering what you feel the correct angle is to draw at, and how high your chair is in relation to the angled table and the paper you are drawing on?

Nothing at all stupid in regards to your questions. You're asking the kind of questions might be interested in. Let's see if I can provide you with a decent answer...

I keep my desk tilted to about a 45 degree angle, Sean. Here are some photos of my desk.

UPDATE: I took a new photo of my desk to better show you the angle, Sean.

This is a good angle for me because I don't have to worry about line of sight distortion at this degree of tilt, and I don't have too much strain on my back either. Some artists like their tables to be much steeper or less steep, but this is what works well for me.

As for the height of my chair, etc.... I like to be able to put my feet flat on the ground when I'm drawing, and especially when I'm inking. The last thing I want to do is have a swiveling chair mess up a crucial line, so I lower my chair to a point where I'm comfortable with my feet planted solid on the floor. It's a must.

Hope that answers your questions, man!

That new photo you added really shows off the angle, Loston! Thanks for the information! I'm going to try and move my table up to a steeper angle like that and see if it reduces a bit of the ol' neck-strain !

I'm sure it will, Sean. If you work at your art table for long hours on end, you need to make sure you have a comfortable chair also--something with good upper and lower back support.

I've been reading the thread on inking with a brush and the back and forth you had going with Adam Masterman concerning hand-inking a drawing over on your sketch blog with great interest, Loston! I am particularly impressed with the inks on your latest commission:

My question is: Do you have any short videos that show you inking a drawing with a brush (and whatever other tools you are using)? I, for one, would be extremely interested in watching an inking demonstration! Thanks.

No I don't. I've been asked to make video inking demos often in the past, and I may do that some day, but for now, if you want to see me ink with a brush, you have to come visit me at my studio. Bat Hilliard and Jeremy Dale have both visited me in the past, and I've given inking demonstrations to both of them. Bat really got a lengthy demonstration. I spent several hours with him going over brush and ink basics and showing him how to produce specific types of lines. I then inked a figure of Ms. Marvel. I went over procedures for correcting ink lines too, I showed him proper brush maintenance and cleaning procedures. He also got to go through my comic collection for a few hours. He was like a kid in a candy store. heh.

One of these days I may do an inking demo video, but I can't do a demo and work a camera at the same time. If I can get Bat, Jer, Brokenhill or someone to come down for a weekend, I'll try to create a brush inking video. I have a camera that can make videos, but I need something better with a tripod and someone to work the camera. Maybe some day I'll put something up here on PJ or on the youtubes.

I have an Inking question, which I think is quite interesting.

It is in "Tips and Techs", thought you can say something interested on the subject.

    Thanks in advance
