I resent that you clearly forgot the "n" in "sandman."

I am personally satisfied with my work, people pay me for my art and I have plenty of critiques. I didn't want to name names or point fingers or whatever but if it will help any of you get my drift I'll do it.

The Improvment Drawoff. I'm sure you all remember that? Whoever's improved the most wins. JLFG won that, right? With that awesome Ironman he did. He appeared to have Improved a ton, and he has improved some, but I found that the next few pieces he did were at the near exact same skill level he was at before the Iron Man piece or were not at the level of skill that the Iron Man was at. What I'm implying here is that JLFG never improved his technique much if at all, he just tryed harder, and created a really cool piece in my opinion but he had and still has the commpassity to do work like that all the time but he doesn't. And their were a ton of awesome improvments all around, but as one member put it "sadman went from scribbles to competence" and I did. And I got no more than 3 votes, if that many.

The Favorite Characters Draw-off. It's still in progress at the polls, but I'm already seeing a fimilar trend. I have no doubt that Web-Head topped me in that DO, his piece is stellar. Compasitionally, anatomically, whatever it's a solid piece. And I know my piece is comparitively anatomically and proportionatly superior to the other two (save the lower two characters) and is definately rendered better but still I recieve no votes I'm positive that there is bias in the voting process on penciljack.com. No doubt in my mind. I hate bias. Especially when it's in a place it most certainly does not belong.

I just want to know why people are bias to other members stuff when they should not. And don't any of you say "human nature" because I know that's the core of the matter, but it doesn't have to be that way.

Just to be clear again, I mean no offense but any comments made to other members here, just saying what I see.
Sorry, no time to talk. I'm busy drawing my books and stories! ;P

Here is my point, you are clearly not getting something you want, you should figure out what it is you want and how to get it, perhaps if you want a bunch of praise start a website all about you?

One reason I'm not a professional comics artist is that it takes a LOT of work to be good at it, and I rarely find myself both willing and able to dedicate that time and energy when I already draw 8-10 hours a day. All things considered, most of the time I think I'd rather be doing comics, but that's probably a case of "grass is greener" syndrome. And for the moment, I'm part of something that I helped to build for almost 7 years, and I want to see where it goes. So for the time being I'm content to do what I can, when I can.

I draw a LOT. I post very little (artwork) lately, and ironically enough it's often not my best work that I post. The best work doesn't need feedback, and I don't post things here or on DA just to soak up admiration... I certainly get that, and I like to hear it, but honestly I've never doubted that I have some skill at this. If I didn't, I wouldn't get paid to do it. In perhaps a bizarre sort of masochism, I want to hear solid, experienced criticism. I love to debate this or that aspect of drawing, and to hear the whys and wherefores of the craft.

It's not good enough for me to be good. I need to be better. And the other guys here who work, like Cory or Nate or Bob or Khary, they know I'm good (I think), but I think they also know that I could be better. I have many things to improve upon. I know what many of them are already, but that doesn't mean I don't want to hear a second opinion.

So no, I wasn't entirely being humorous, just trying to be light-hearted.
And that's the aditude I have, I'm already good but I can be better and I always can be better. That's the drive to succede right there.

Now, how would I cater to them? I'm not a instrument of the populace, and always will refuse to do so, if I did I'd feel like a sellout. But I see what you mean.

That doesn't stop me. It's my schedule that stops me
It doesn't really matter because as an artist we're always our own harshest critique; I'd never vote for me so I'm not too disappointed if no one else does, lol

In all honesty, voting is very deeply biased. To make a long post short, the more visually stunning the artwork is, the more votes you'll get. Generally. Technique, rendering, anatomy, all that is all well and good, but if it doesn't punch the viewer they'll forget about it in favor of the full-colored, cutting-edge look. And boobies. Boobies sell.
And that's the problem I'm trying to touch on, even in Drawoffs that are not judged by an awesome, dynamic work of art, they WILL get the votes, technique, skill level anatomical knowledge, all the things that make art possible mean nothing at the polls if someone has that "awesome piece," even if the other guys piece is better in many other respects.

Oh, you kids and your constant need for praise. When I was your age I never got any compliments on my artwork. That was before this new fandangled interweb thing came about so I was stuck showing my drawings to my peers. I always got, "You should see (insert future WB director of animation for Batman TAS and JLA Unlimited here)'s drawings. He can REALLY draw!" which we all know translates to, "your stuff sucks". Some of them even thought it was okay to draw on top of my drawings! And I'm not talking overlays either. I'm talking about drawing a bigger crotch on a character or erasing the tips of wings on another and making them sharper because they thought it looked cooler or it was hilarious to deface my work. My mom always gave me the old, "that's nice" for every drawing and my dad gave me some critiques but told me that I was supposed to "establish myself and keep art as a hobby".
Of all the stuff I've posted here the most comments I've gotten have been four in one post and the few draw-offs I've entered have gotten zero votes. The draw-offs are supposed to be strictly for fun and only reflect a general preference in style anyway so they're really not that important. Sometimes people win based on the fact that their entry just happens to be funnier than the rest even so take them with a grain of salt. Besides, that particular draw-off that you seem to be so upset about has at least two entries that got crits and overlays (yup, I'm calling you out because yours was one of them) that got ignored.
In the end, the best advice I can give you is the same advice I give everyone in here when they start bitching about anything and everything which is to SHUT UP AND DRAW!

By the way; something's wrong with that poll because I did vote for you.

There is artistic purity, and then there is making a living doing something you love, surely you can figure out how to blend the two without losing your initial integrity .

It's not a pride issue here it's an issue of people's opinions or lies about their opinions.
Don't believe that nonsense, I ripped into Inks so-called sequentials.

My piece didn't recieve any overlays, crits maybe, but minor nitpicky-type ones. Besides, it's not about attention or praise it's about bias and a lack of honest voting in the polls.

But thanks for the vote, it's apprecaited.
