Two illustrations for a book i'm working on with my brother.

I'm currently working on a fantasy story with my brother. It takes place in a fictional city (directly linked with New York). Here are two pieces i made for it, depicting two different area's within this city. Do you guys think the different styles work together?

    Sweet illustrations, duder!

I definitely think these two are comparable, when it comes to style. I wouldn't worry about that.

To be honest, I'm not sure how the city you depicted can be linked to new york... It looks more European to me.

Have you ever seen 'les triplettes de belle-ville'? It's a great animated movie, and a lot of it takes place in a city that is very reminiscent of New York, although not 'quite' the same. It's done quite brilliantly.

The illustrations are great, and, though different, the two styles work pretty well together. I do agree about the New York crit, though; if that's what you're going for I'm not sure if these pieces are successful in conveying that. The European vibe is way stronger.

Hmmm.. both are interesting designs. New York? Well, I would guess with the first one, it'd be an older new york (but without that gray twisting building between the two orange ones. That gray thing I don't care for). The 2nd, I'd get a New York meets Agrabah type vibe. The rounded house tops gives *me* that feel. The only thing I dont like in the 2nd one is how well you have the city rendered, and then you have that squared off twisted pattern at the bottom. I really cant figure out what the aim was there. Great job overall though.

Thanks for the comments people, i appreciate it. About it not looking like new york; It's not supposed to BE New York, it's another (fantasy) city linked to New York. It's kinda hard to explain, my brother would probably do a better job The idea is that there's a fantasy world you can enter at certain times if you are aware of it. For instance if you would open your frontdoor at the right time, wanting to go to this fantasy city it would lead you there instead of into your house. So there's a whole world "under" or "on top" our own. This story takes place in New York so the fantasy city is what's under/on top of New York (Manhattan especially)

@HitNRun: The pattern is supposed to be the barrier between our world and the other world so that's why it's there. But i'm still not sure if it was a right decision design-wise.
