F da po-lice
This is an illustration I did for a newspaper out in Houston. It's for a new column about funny police stories or something like that. A buddy of mine I went to college with asked me if I'd be interested in doing it and seeing if they wanted to use it, and they do! So I'm totally psyched about that because it's my first published illustration work. So I'm basically on top of the world right now. Feel free to crit:
Anyone? Well, this is the first time I've used that feathering technique or whatever (the parts that are the light yellowish color) in a real piece, so I'm wondering how those came out. How is the color scheme?

The coloring, or at least the feather technique you mentioned, is just fine. What bothers me is his right arm and how there's no line on the inside and it's just two colors butting up against each other. Everything else has these big juicy thick lines and suddenly *wham* there's that arm. It's distracting to the rest of the piece, especially since it looks like the arm is behind his collar, which I don't think is physically possibly. Wipe a tear from your eye and notice how far our your forearm is and now imagine how far out that collar would have to be.
The rest of it is pretty good. Some of the lines could be cleaner. The style you've chosen needs to have lines that aren't timid or shaky, they need to be strong and sure.
Good luck with it, I hope it brings you more work.
