    Daredevil 82-87 Brubaker Spoilers

So I'm a bit behind. I heard all the fiddle and fuddle about Brubaker's run on Daredevil when it was going on and decided to check it out. It's really impressive. It's everything I could have wanted out of a superhero book. I'm not that big on the spandex stuff. I'll pick up Batman (when it's Dini writing) and so forth, but all in all I normally avoid it. But Brubaker really brought the gritty with this run. If you haven't read it, don't read what's below cause it's all about what goes on...

So Murdock gets sent to jail because the Kingpin outed him as Daredevil. So Murdock is arrested for all kinds of crimes like assault and the like. And that's the main thrust of this arch. How Murdock gets treated in jail, how he denies he's Daredevil. Stuck in prison with the likes of The Owl, Hammer Head, The Tarantula, and others certainly would suck.

In a political move to try and kill Murdock, some strings were pulled to get Bullseye moved to Rykers as well. Meanwhile there's some one else running around on the outside pretending to be Daredevil. And to top it all off, The Punisher allows himself to be arrested and sent in to help out.

I won't ruin the whole thing, but all in all a very nice arch. I read it cover to cover all in one run. If you are a fan of the nitty gritty and a little bit of spandex tossed in, it's way worth checking out if you haven't already.

Yeah, this story was really good.

I dropped the book after issue 12, so I missed almost all of Bendis' run. I'm hoping to rectify this in the future and get the trades or hardcovers. I picked it up again when Brubaker started his run.

I don't remember the specifics of the story too clearly, but I seem to recall loving the Punisher's role.

I haven't read the book since issue 91, sadly. I need to catch up.

Actually sounds good, I am going to get it.

Brubaker should've gotten writer of the year for cleaning up the mess that Bendis left behind! I actually look forward to reading this book again. While I'm not a big fan of Marko's art, it is still better than Maleev's. Even after 4+ years of being crushed by Bendis and Maleev, DD has survived! Kudos to Brubaker!!!

Oh please, Maleev is one of the best artists when it comes to the ability to tell a story, and conveying the mood of a story. Marko is just a cover artist

Besides, Michael Lark handles the interiors on Brubaker's run.

I'll say he can convey the mood of Bendis's story, but that is not a complement.

Well, considering that DD is one of those "street" heroes, and that Brubaker's at his best writing crime stories, there's no doubt he pulled it off brilliantly.
If you liked it, check out Sleeper, and Criminal, too. You won't regret it. Brubaker is undeniably one of the best writers in the business in these TV/Movie-writers-going-for-comics years. He keeps the tradition alive!

By the way, he did win the Eisner's Best Writer award this year and the Harvey last year for Cap Am.

...though by the sheer volume of material he writes (Cap Am, Criminal, X-Men, DD, Immortal Iron Fist), the guy must not have that much of a social life

Brubaker also won this year's Harvey for Best Writer for Daredevil.
