Yeah join up. No time line or anything, and there are 64 spots left.
I feel bad for those who've sent their addresses and stuff if we end up doing a sheet a person.
The handful of originals would be a cool idea. That'd be a huge custom job though, if you figure 5 originals per book plus all the others printed, that's 105 pages (would be just too costly to replace the copy with the original in different books.) That's still 20 different books. We may be getting into a bit of a spending spree with that.
When I get info back from the dozen or so binding companies I'll know better what we're dealing with.
Then just use all originals and have them bound together/collected somehow...
1. Easier for everyone to do. Just set a deadline and let us know where to mail them to.
2. No waiting period for the sketchbook to be mailed to everyone...especially for the overseas.
3. Cost effective for shipping. Mailing one sheet of art to you is going to be a lot cheaper than remailing a heavy sketchbook all over the place.
4. You'll still have 100 pieces of original artwork in there to use for the auction.
5. No chance of the sketchbook disappearing if someone decides they want to keep it...nor would there be a chance of it getting lost in the mail.
6. No chance of the sketchbook getting damaged by someone who is careless with it...not saying that anyone on here would be...but accidents do happen.
Hell if all else fails...go to your local office supply store (Staples/Office Depot), pick up a black binder that you can insert those clear plastic sheets into, and just get 100 sheets and insert the art into that binder as you get it in...then once you have all 100 pieces...sell the whole damn binder. That might be a lot better way to go...especially if the person who buys it would like to have any of the original pieces framed.

Part of the coolness of this project, to me, was that this was a sketchbook that was going to be sent all over the country to have some really cool art drawn in it. It's what would make it unique.
Some of the other ideas being discussed might be more practical... but takes most of the fun out of it in my opinion.

Sure it makes it unique...but look at the risk involved...not to mention the time in getting such a feat done.
I understand there would be a risk involved and that it would take alot of time to get it done. IMO, it would give it more worth.

Yeah, that's what I was saying when I suggested the idea, I think the effort would stand out. But, would you get more of a return on the effort? probably not what it would cost to send it(almost definitly not)
And binding it yourself isn't expensive or very difficult, but that's the last I'll say on the subject.
I volunteer to follow where ever this project goes.
Dunno...I guess we'll wait and see what Ben decides. I'm game either way. I'm just making alternate suggestions on ways that this could be done.
Have to agree with Bovey about the book getting sent out..It'll give the artist participating in this project the chance to see work of like-minded artists up close. Scans don't do original works justice as everyone knows and it'll inspire better work if it was shipped around. Journey of a sketchbook. Great on so many levels.
