Thread: Marvel Arcana Drawoff Poll (K.O.- Greendri)

Marvel Arcana Drawoff Poll (K.O.- Greendri)

After much frustration and delay, we have the entries all sorted. For those who didn't know the premise, here it is:

Redesign a single Tarot card using any comic book character of your choice.

So even if the character in question was not a Marvel character, it is still eligible. "Marvel Arcana" is just a name. Remember to judge based on appropriateness of the character/card combo and the design of the card.

    Chris Major
    The Phoenix as Judgement

    Blamito
    Dr. Strange as The Magician

    Greendri
    The Punisher as Death

  2. #2
    Spider-Zan
    The Darkness as The Devil

    DevonW
    Magneto as The Emperor

Great showing folks. Thank you all for taking part. I won't make it a rule not to vote for yourself, but it's pretty bad form. Good luck to all!

Alright. We're good to go. I'm going to sleep on this, because it's a very close tie between Chris Major and Spider-Zan. Tough choice.

    Eh, screw sleep.

It's difficult for me to choose a winner because Spider-Zan and Chris Major both but a lot of great detail into their work. The quality is astounding, and the theme of each card just fits SO well. I'd go into the deeper philosophical reasonings of each card, but that would bore people.

    Instead, here's why I chose Spider-Zan:

I am a fan of tarot art that is more simplified. While Spider-Zan's Devil card is lacking the presence of the lovers, I understood the sphere the Darkness is on to represent the world. Instead of corruption of the lovers, it is the world in general. The aspects of each card are present, and the quality of the work is close enough that it was hard to choose.

So, since I couldn't choose based on quality alone, I chose the one that looked most like a tarot card. Spider-Zan included a border AND, most important, the title of the card. Had Chris included either of those in his image, I'd probably take all 8 days to choose.

I loved Blamito's Magician because it reminded me of the Rider-Waite tarot deck. Greendri's Death just amazed me. In the end, though, I had to go with the one most likely to be in a comic oriented Tarot deck that *I* would use. I'm just that kind of geek.

Great work all, and thanks again so, so much. I have a scanner now, so won't be having delays on my end anymore. Thanks for your support, and I look forward to the next drawoff!

Thanks, man. After continually getting whooped it means a lot. I went with Spider-Zan cos I heart pretty pictures.

    - Good concept but Phoenix looks rather scary. The lettering and layout works. Typography is not used too much here on these boards which is a shame.

Blamito - Where's the effort you put in your Minotaur and Captain America works? There's a girl in my class and her work reminds me of yours. Simple, flattened designs which work well if design is really pushed.

DevonW - I like the design but you could of went further. Inks would have brought out out a lot.

greendri, thanks for your support. I'm going to try inking it and see if it'll be any better.

Definitely, friend. That piece begs for some good ink; well done, it will certainly pop out in a good way.
